OK, misleading title.....

We just adopted a sweet kitty on Saturday and we named her Pixy. She is all black with a tiny dot of white on her chest, turned up green eyes, and a tail that has to be seen to be believed. It is about 1/2 normal length and all twisted and curved. She came to the shelter as a stray so they have no idea if she was born that way or had an accident. She is the sweetest thing, just a big purr bucket!

Pixy had been at the shelter since April '07 (yes, for 8 months!!) and had been featured in October for "adopt a black kitty month", and also as a special kitty for December for "Home for the Holidays", and still no one took her home. I volunteer at the shelter as a foster family for babies (kittens and puppies) that are too young to go up for adoption and have seen this sweet girl get passed up for months. I just couldn't let her sit there any longer....and we are all thrilled to have her!

Just wanted to brag about our new "baby" and her inspired name. It just seemed to fit her better than Tink. Hope you all are enjoying your Holiday Season! Hope it's warmer wherever you are than here!

PS What a great shelter we have that gives so many animals the chance to find their forever homes, no matter how long that may take.

Aww, that was nice of you to adopt her! I'm glad Pixy has a nice home now. She sounds adorable. :) I hate seeing animals in shelters...so sad.

Oh, and I foster baby kittens too! :D

Only one of our three is a "rescue" cat. but he's got a good story behind him.

Felix was a gift from a friend. the friend had adopted a stray, and when the stray had kittens...felix was one of the kittens. Daisy was a gift from another friend...she had too many cats in her small apartment, and the landlord told her to get rid of the cats or he'd evict her.

but Mr. Kitty...(yeah, I know, dumb name, but still...) -- Mr. Kitty found us.

there's pond about 1/2 a mile from my house, which has a feral cat population, mostly because people dump unwanted cats there. some of the cats are obviously former house pets, some are obviously not.

the cats have been known to wander, we've seen several of the strays in our back yard from time to time.

Mr. Kitty showed up one September day. he was only 4 weeks old at the time and very very hungry. came to our house looking for food. his markings are very similar to daisy's, and at first glance we thought he was Daisy...we started calling the kitten "Kitty" because we thought it was female...added the "Mr." when we found evidence to the contrary...

Thank you for all of the warm wishes and stories of your babies :)

We already have a house full (all rescues....cats, dogs, even some rescued birds) but I convinced my DH that she deserved her forever home, she had waited long enough. She is really enjoying laying on the bed (actually on the pillows!) and playing with her toys. She is about 2 years old and very active.....I was so surprised she hadn't been adopted during their Home for the Holidays campaign, but I know how the "non-flashy" adults can be overlooked. Again, so glad we took her home, she is a pure joy.....

DH has pointed out that I mispelled Pixy, popular spelling is Pixie (especially for Tink!!) Sheesh, I should have known that. But, I just finished reading a Fantasy series of 4 books that has it spelled Pixy, so that was on my brain... please forgive my oops! (hope that spell-check poster doesn't get me!)

PS I love Mr. Kitty's name(and his story).....hey, we have a kitty named Whiskers, so there you go.....As long as they are loved I don't think they will protest too much.....

I judge 4-H cat shows and I love talking to the kids. I always ask their cat's name and where they got them....some of the answers just crack me up.

Thanks to everyone who rescues any animal in need of a home!
