Jungle Cruise??

It was true that they were making a film... but nothing has been said about it in a while. It might still be in "pre-production." It might have been affected by the writer's strike, it could have been affected by a lot of things.

Hopefully it will eventually be forgotten, just like Pirates 2 and 3, Haunted Mansion, and Country Bears should have been.

As a matter of fact, I had totally forgotten about the Country Bears movie until you just brought it up!

So are you assuming that the Jungle Cruise movie will be a flop, even though it hasn't come out yet and we know virtually nothing about it? Being the optimist that I am, I have my fingers crossed that they will get this one right, and it won't turn out to be another Haunted Mansion....

Let's just say that like Fox Mulder, I want to believe, yet the past track record for turning attractions into movies hasn't been stellar. They got one good one in the bunch - the first Pirates of the Caribbean - and those aren't great odds (parts 2 and 3 may have done well, but I'm sorry, I found them incredibly weak and dopey). Just to make the statistics even worse, I could add in Mission to Mars and Tower of Terror, too...but I'll be nice and try to forget about those.
Since Jungle Cruise was based to some degree on The African Queen, does this mean what we're really getting is yet another remake? Frankly, I don't want to see that, just as I don't want to see a remake of Swiss Family Robinson...which I also hear is in the works. What's next - Test Track: The Movie, starring Vin Diesel as a gruff race car driver who gets a speeding ticket and is forced to do community service as a crash test dummy? Let the wackiness ensue!

Sadly, based on what I have heard on it, it will rival the popularity of The Haunted Mansion movie. With me being an optimist as well, hopefully it will not rival The Country Bears. There's a big difference between Haunted Mansion bad and Country Bears bad.

Point taken....

I wouldn't really count Tower of Terror though, because wasn't that a made-for-Disney-Channel flick? I wouldn't count a movie to be a flop unless it gets the full attention and budget of a theatrical release.

The 2nd and 3rd Pirates were entertaining at times, but the storylines were all over the place. Felt like watching 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time, but at least 2001 EVENTUALLY makes sense.

Yes that's true. Haunted Mansion bad is when you watch the whole thing, but you leave the theater with a bitter taste in your mouth. Country Bears bad is when you leave the theater before the opening credits even finish, and demand the manager for a refund.

In fact, didn't Disneyland close down their Country Bears attraction shortly after the film came out? Coincidence...... maybe not......

No, the brains in power then actually closed it down BEFORE the movie came out. Wouldn't you think that you'd want to keep open the attraction the movie is based on? Synergy, anyone? To me, this is one of the most spectacularly bad decisions Disneyland has ever made...with Rocket Rods and Rockin' Space Mountain/California Screamin' rating just above. I keep hoping someone will realize that the attraction is worth having and will reinstate it, perhaps in the Golden State area across from Grizzly River Rapids (itself another bad decision, but that's another story for another time).
