July 4th (again)

Well I had my reservations made and paid for, and then my mother in law calls to tell me she is getting married during the time that I'm SUPPOSED to be at WDW. Course her plans won't be changed, but mine will!

Now I have this wonderful decision to make---do I take my son out of his last week and a half of baseball (he is the star pitcher, hate to let his team down) or do I brave July 4th week?

My son thinks that July 4th week would be cool because we've never been to WDW "during a holiday before." Yeah, it would be cool, but the crowds will be difficult for me to deal with.

I have been during the summer many, many times--but July 4th? Is it really THAT bad? I mean, can someone compare the week of July 4th to say another summer week like in June? Is it really impossible to get on rides that day? I know they close the gates at MK early due to capacity on the 4th. Another question--if they close the gates can resort guests still get in even on a holiday?

Help! My trip is on the line!

I've never been to WDW for July 4th... but I wouldn't want to take my son out of his last week and a half of baseball, especially since he is the star pitcher... I do know that if they close the park gates that resort guests can still enter the park. Hope this helps... :)

We have gone every year during the 4th of July and we would not go any other time. Yes it is crowded and it can be hot but I have been in August and it was hotter. Why do we love the 4th there? A WDW engineer in charge of much of the WDW grounds told me that WDW plans rehab of rides and Resorts to be ready and at its best for the 4th of July week. I have even seen it myself. We checked into the Polynesian one year on the 1st and there were walls up outside the entrance because they were painting and cleaning. I was told they were getting the resort ready for the 4th. Also many of the rides down for rehab in May and June were set to open back up for the 4th. As far as crowds well yes there are more people but just about everything is open so there is more places for all the people to go. Also things are open later so people go in and out all day. Every time we have been in WDW for the 4th we keep a journal and one of the tings we keep track of was our longest wait time. With using fast pas or just knowing where to go when we never waited longer than 15 for anything and most things we got on in less than 5. Also there is usually a little rain almost every day around 3:00 which the clouds help keep things cooler and the rain does not feel bad at all. Besides all of those things there are always special things going on for the 4th and I don’t think there is a better place to be for the 4th of July.

My sister and I are both in school and play 3 varsity sports each year. My parents are both teachers and coaches. The rule is that we only go to Dinsey when wemiss minimum amounts of school, but can never, EVER miss practices or a game. EVER! Therefore, we only vacation to Disney during holiday times, and we go back every year. We've been there for the big 3-- Easter, Christmas and New Year's, and July 4th.

July 4th week was not terrible at all. The temps were hot, true, but not unbearable to what we get on the Jersey Shore on occassion. The lines were not awful, and we got on everything we wanted lots and lots! B/c the parks are open all day, we'd get there at opening, leave by 11 or 12, and then head back to the parks by 5 and stay till closing, usually 11-12. We found this very convenient to get on all of our rides.

We'd go over July 4th again, but we have our new favorite time of Christmas. We laugh now about the 8 previous times we've gone over Easter, THAT was horrendous, but always FUN!!!!

We were there last July 4th week, and it was more than tolerable both crowds and weather. In fact, the weather there was much nicer than here, where we topped out around 100 each day that week.

Crowds and lines, well it was something we expected, and were able to work around with FastPass and not being greedy with regards to multiple riding.

The day of was tight at MK, with gates/parking closing midday, but we did MGM that morning and had a very enjoyable time...then hit MK for the night/fireworks.

One cool thing about the crowds was going in July 4th night, and because of the crowd, they opened up the backstage cut overs from Main Street USA to Tomorrowland. Not a lot to see, except loading docks, but still neat for a behind-the-scenes curious type like me.

Access was from where the Ear embroidery store is over to the never used Tomorrowland stage.

We were there last year for the 4th. I have to echo others comments: yes the crowds were large, but it was tolerable. Just become a master of the FastPass! The worst thing I can say about that time of year is the weather: expect to get wet. We did seven nights, and had only one day it didn't rain! Also think carefully about which park to go to on the actual holiday - the MK will be crowded. We did the Studios on the 4th and it worked out fine. We learned this the first time we did Christmas at WDW - We tried MK, but soon left because of the crowds and went to Epcot, which was just fine. We are going again this Christmas and will use the same strategy. (I can't wait!):hammer:
