RIP Julia Child, dead today at the age of 91.

Julia Child, whose warbling, encouraging voice and able hands brought the intricacies of French cuisine to American home cooks through her television series and books, died in her sleep three days before what would have been her 92nd birthday.
The statement said she died Thursday at her home in Santa Barbara, Calif. The cause of death was not given.

A 6-foot-2 American folk hero, “The French Chef” was known to her public as Julia, and preached a delight not only in good food but in sharing it, ending her landmark public television lessons at a set table and with the wish, “Bon appetit.”

I loved watching her shows when I was a kid, she made me want to learn to cook. She will live on in all of her shows.......

Both of my kids know who she was...we always watch the cooking shows.

I like cooking shows....I liked her's, as she did not cook food that was over almost everybody's head (unlike Emeril and Puck....half of the stuff they cook, I can't even spell)

Yes I remember when I was little I would watch her all the time... she was so grandmotherly!

So sad to hear she has passed. I remember watching her on a black & white tv! The woman is a television legend, the pioneer of the genre. I understand her kitchen is in the Smithsonian.

God bless her and may she rest in peace. She helped to turn this nation's food tastes from the bland and everyday to something delicious and beautiful. Her sense of humor in the kitchen will always be remembered.
