So why again don't they just appear regularly? The ride is mostly about them.

I'm pretty sure that the 3 cabs WILL begin appearing in Mexico on the 5th for cinco de mayo, that's what I've heard from friends in entertainment. Every other ltm event has started on a Monday but the theme for the week is cinco de mayo so it makes sense to begin that day.
I'm sure if past ltm events are any indication we'll also see some cinco de mayo mouse ears or tshirt and a margarita flavored cupcake.

More than likely, but I don't know for a fact. They have the nice backdrop there and there should be enough room for 3 characters.

Been way longer than that, 2007 or 2008 if I recall was the great Epcot sidekick reduction that also hit Genie & Mushu & Dopey.
PS: I "heard" this info coincidently started flying around twitter shortly after Drew posted with no credit to him or the magic boards

I agree! I saw all three only once and I didn't have my camera. I returned one year later and Donald was the Lone Caballero. I was told by a CM that not enough people knew who Jose' and Panchito were. Very sad.

I'm raising my 3 year old right... The Three Caballeros movie is one of his favorites! This is his favorite scene... He loves YaYa!

I found some more info on this from another site and it has this event going on from May 5th-May 11th. It states you'll be able to meet and greet the 3 caballeros. It'll either be inside the Epcot Mexico pavilion (probably somewhere in the vacinity near the entrance of their boat ride) or outside at the Mexican Promenade location where they have Donald at currently. Cinco de Mayo will factor into this LTM as well.
