Back in 2016, Jon Favreau announced that he was pitching a film called "Magic Kingdom" where a family gets locked in Disneyland overnight, only to discover that after the park closes, all the rides and characters all come to life- a similar premise to Night at the Museum. Around the time 2016's Jungle Book came out, he said he was still actively working on the project, but no updates have come since.
I imagine this was due to the company wanting him to make the "live action" Lion King remake (yawn) instead. Personally I think it could have been something special, and I hope we learn more about what he had planned, or that they revisit the idea someday. It sounds like it'd be a home run for the company, since they could pretty much integrate any characters from their various IPs AND attractions from their parks into the story.
What does everyone think of this shelved film, and what would you have liked to have seen in it? If you were tasked with writing an original screenplay taking place in the Disney parks (without adapting the Kingdom Keepers series which, imo, hasn't aged well), how would you go about it?
