Jiko or Boma?

Can't decide between these 2 for dinner? I know Boma would have lots of food options and is suited more for my kids, but the menu at Jiko just sounds really good! Is Jiko too fancy for my kids? What is the dress code there and is it 1 or 2 credits from the dining plan? Same question goes to Boma as well.

The only place we have eaten at so far at AKL is Sanaa, which we thought was just ok...

2 and 4, right? Go for Boma. For experience and food, go for Jiko.

I look my kid last year (she was 7) and she adored Jiko, as did I. It is now among, if not my most, favorite restaurant on property.

Do both..Boma for lunch..Jiko for dinner..;)
Is Boma open for lunch? For some reason I thought it was only breakfast and dinner.

OP, to answer your dining plan questions, Jiko is two credits and Boma is one. Jiko does have a dress code. They suggest business casual attire, but the only true restrictions are hats for men, tank tops, cutoffs (or other ripped or torn clothing), swim wear, and shirts with objectionable graphics or writing. If you're limited to what you can order on the regular dining plan, however, I don't know that Jiko would be worth it. It's my favorite Disney World restaurant, but their appetizers are easily their strongest course. You'd be missing out on some of the best stuff only being able to order entrées and desserts.

I've eaten at both, Jiko is by far one of my favorite restaurants on property. As others have said, its 2 credits and Boma is only 1 credit. There is a dress code, so keep that in mind, I usually pack a change of clothes in my back pack for us for dinner since we don't go back to the hotel throughout the day, we usually just go into the bathroom in the lobby of the hotel and change real quick. As far as your kids enjoying it, it really depends on your kids and only you can answer that. I know some kids hate sitting down for a long dinner whereas others enjoy it. You also have to think if your kids can be well behaved through the meal, they may do fine back at home when you go out, but I know even I get antsy sometimes at Disney because I just want to get back to the parks/rides. Theres nothing more annoying than being at a nice restaurant and having children at another table throwing food, screaming and running around (not saying that your kids would do that, just saying how I feel about it when it happens, yes I know its Disney and I expect there to be noise and children and I can tolerate it better in Disney than at home, its just nice sometimes to have a little quiet and enjoy a meal)

We've had one outstanding meal at Jiko several years ago, and one disappointing meal there in 2011. Boma has never, never disappointed. Jiko boasts an outstanding collection of South African wines. If you go, make sure your server is able to intelligently discuss them, unlike the last one we had, whose wine knowledge peaked at "white goes with fish."

Jiko is our favorite dining spot in all of WDW. However, if you have kids coming along, Boma might be the better choice as its buffet and they can pick and choose what they want to eat. And yes, Jiko does have somewhat of a dress code (I know for sure they do not allow any kind of hats to be worn).

My husband and I did the same thing when we ate there. Fortunately we had our car with us so were able to stash out clothes in there while we toured AK.

They are two of our favorite restaurants at WDW :) For small children, I would probably lean towards Boma because of the variety and casual atmosphere. They have a great array of bite sized desserts too!

Jiko is a bit more sophisticated (menu wise) and counts as 2 table service meals. Instead of regular butter, they served curry butter for our dinner. The chef let us sample a new dish (appetizer portion-sized) as well.

Since we wanted to try both and happened to be staying at AKL, we had Boma for dinner one day, Boma for breakfast another day, and Jiko for dinner later that day. We couldn't stay away!

That curry butter and bread sampler was fantastic!

Now my mouth is watering!

If you are on the DDP go for Boma. If you are paying cash go for Jiko.

The cash price for Boma is simply too high. For a few bucks more you can get a superior meal at Jiko and they have a very good kids menu.
