Japanese Red Bean Dessert -- Anyone Remember?

15 or 20 years ago the snack stand at Epcot's Japan served a dessert made of two fish shaped pancake type pastries with sweet red bean filling in between them. The stand has served snow cones for the past 10 years but it used to serve these delights. First, does anyone even remember them? Second, any idea how to replicate the pancake? It was made in a fish shaped mold (think waffle iron). This is one of my vividest childhood memories of Epcot; my parents still bring it up nearly 20 years on.

I never got one in Epcot, but I do know what you are talking about. It is a japanese treat called Taiyaki. It happens to be one of my favorite sweets. I had no idea they sold them at Epcot at one time. Sad I missed them! I go to Sakura Matsuri (the cherry blossom festival) every year in Washington, DC and I always make sure to get some there. In my experience they are hard to find, so I get them whenever I can. Sometimes you can find them frozen in Asian grocery stores, but I have never had them that way. There are molds for them for sale on Amazon and I'm sure you could find a recipe on the internet. Yummy yummy treat. Good Luck!

Red bean paste is readily available if you have an asian supermarket around. One of the largest chains is called Super H, which is a Korean market and I know they have it in stock there.
