My family and I are considering on going to the world January 1-7 2008. We had previously considered May 22-28. How were the crowds for January 1-7 this year, and previous years?

Hi,

We went to Disney last January (2006) and have been in January a few times before that. We stayed at AKL. I would not call last year busy, per se. However, it was definitely not dead as it has been previously. We weren't even there over MLK weekend as we learned that lesson years ago. Kind of caught us off guard, actually. There were lines at the water park even. Not long lines, but 20-30 minutes or so to ride the chairlift at BB. That seemed surprising. In the parks, we never had to wait as much as an hour for anything, but it took some good logisitics planning to avoid lines. Definitely had to use FP for any of the E tickets. Waiting 20 minutes or so for less popular/fast loading attractions was common. Hardly any walking on at all. Don't even get me started on evening EMH. HORRIBLE!! A park would start to wind down, and then BAM it would get slammed with everyone on the planet. Started to avoid those parks like the plague. On a positive note, the weather is not too bad for the dead of winter, and probably better than anywhere you might be coming from. That makes me appreciate Florida more, personally! I don't think (guessing here) that the bigger crowds were anything about January in particular, just the overall rise in attendance at WDW in general, so not avoidable. We're trying late August/September this year in the hopes of finding an even slower time of year. Hope this was somewhat helpful. Good luck planning the perfect vacation!

I went the 2nd week of January this year, and it wasn't bad at all...not crowded. Best crowd levels ever for me. I was just worried about going right after New Years Day...if those crowd levels would spill into the following week.

January 1st will be a beast, but the crowds will taper off as you go. I was there Jann 3-8 this year. The crowds got less and less as the time went by. But, we were also there for the Marathon and that increased the crowds some, methinks!

Do you think the crowds after New Years Day this year were worse due to the Marathon? The marathon isn't until January 10th-13th in 2008. Could that have contributed to more crowds this year than previous years?

I was there Dec. 29-Jan. 5. Usually the parks are sort of dead from the 1st on but this year I didn't see much thining until the 4th. New Years day in 2008 will be on a Tuesday. I think most of the crowds will not go home on Wednesday but stay until Sat. or Sunday. I hope I am wrong as I will be there the 1st through the 8th.

Maybe. It also seemed like alot of schools weren't back in session yet, which just made it worse. I must have been crazy thinking that our schools were the only ones that hadn't gone back yet:brick:

It will be busy to begin with but it will get lighter as the days go on.

You might want to look at touringplans.com to find the crowd levels and figure out which parks are best to visit on which day.

I didn't think that the marathon made a huge difference this year. I was at AK whilst it was on and I didn't think the crowds were that bad but they seemed worse because some of the paths were closed or sectioned off in the morning. By the afternoon it was fine though.
