January 3rd-January 8th, 2005

(this is just posted right from my livejournal, so sorry for any confusion)

So I'm back from Florida, Well I landed back home on Saturday Night at 8 but Ive been too tired to type it out until now.

Hope you enjoy!

Day One: (January 3rd) Airport/Magic Kingdom

So after making it through the extra tight security where you have to take almost every piece of clothing on you (not really but it feels like it), We had a layover in Baltimore and thats where the fun started. We get in Orlando for 1240 and I was waiting for the luggage as Ken went to get the passes for Mears. I waited as soon as they started and waited until they finished and NO LUGGAGE! It defnitely wasn't a good start to the trip so Ken went to go report it and it turns out it got stuck in Baltimore and told us we should have it by the nighttime and we did because it would have stunk wearing the same clothes the next day and in PANTS too!
So after getting all the luggage mess through with, We checked in at the Hotel, we stayed at Pop Century, and its bascially like the All Star Results, just the latest one so everyone looks cleaner. My brother just wanted to stay in the 80s section, Our room wasnt bad, it was located close enough to the computer pool and avoided any view of a parking lot which would have sucked. We booked to the bus stop to head to the Magic Kingdom and boy was it packed! We headed straight to Tomorrowland and there was barely enough room to walk in some areas. So since it wasnt open the last time I went (2003), i HAD to go on Carousel of Progress in case they closed later in the week so we did that first hehe, im so corny, then we grabbed a fastpass to Space Mountain then rode the TTA. For some reason I like the TTA, its a relaxing trip around Tomorrowland with some nice views. After that, we did Buzz which I kicked Ken's butt, I had like 300,000 points to ken 40,000 pts or so. Our faces on the picture for that was intereqsting, so I videotaped it.

Our fastpasses for Space Mountain werent till park closing (probably due to the busy crowds) so we made our way to Liberty Square to see the Haunted Mansion. I think I can recite that ride from beginning to end. After that, we made sure we caught one of the last showings of the Country Bear Jamboree Christmas Special as it was getting closed for the week to change it back to the normal one, I think the Christmas one is just better then the regular one and it was a sold out show with the crowds clapping and singing along, defnitely neat. We rode Big Thunder which also had a longer line before heading back to Space Mountain for the last ride of the day then we ran to Liberty Square to make sure we caught Spectromagic, The music for Spectro gives me chills every time I hear it, then we ran and did Splash before the parade ended so when we got off, Wishes started and it wasnt a bad view from the queue area from Big Thunder to watch Wished. I had the Wishes song stuck in my head the whole night too. After, we went back to the hotel to see our bags had arrived so I changed right away to my bathing suit and went swimming for awhile which felt SO DAMN GOOD :)

Day 2: January 4th (Epcot,MGM)

Well originally our plan was to go to Animal Kingdom for a half day then finish up at MGM but we really needed our EPCOT fix in so we decided to go there first and ride most of the Future World rides. So first we headed to Mission:Space, our first time on the ride and grabbed a fast pass for Test Track. Mission: Space is AWESOME, it really feels like your taking off, as you feel pressure on your neck as your completely upside down then you feel light once the engines fire off. My first time, I was the Commander, Later in the trip, I was the Engineer as well.

Now this is the sad part, Seeing Wonders of Life closed :(, I will miss that building but it deserves an update and hopefully it will come after Soarin' is done. No need to change any of the rides but update the shows and add futuristic shows and it should be better I think. Then we went to the East Side and rode Imagination, Kenny loved the new Figment as he saw the 2nd creation and I think everyone and their mother hated that version. Theres no Dreamfinder but at least Figment is his lovable self again. This is when I got my picture taken with Figment too in his new home, I felt like a little kid, probably because I was surrounded by a bunch of 5 year olds and im 19, I didnt care, Figment rocks! Before we left, we rode Spaceship Earth which is still a favorite of us both.

We took a direct bus to MGM at 12 as we had reservations for the Hollywood Brown Derby at 2. So we got to ride Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster before our reservations. Now this was our first time eating there and the place was real fancy, I felt out of place but I can say so does everyone else. We ordered their famous salad, and it wasnt bad once i got the Ricotta Cheese out of it YUCK! So we spent the rest of the day, riding Star Tours, Muppets 3D, before heading back to Aerosmith and Tower one more time. Then at 630, we went to Fantasmic and found out there was only standing room left so we didnt care, I was just happy that we got to see it. It is an amazing show and it was neat at the end that they had a black n white (stemboat willie) driving the ship. And cool how they showed a Mulan clip in one of the water movie scenes. We got back to the hotel, took a mini-break then went to Disney-Quest where we rode CyberSpaceMountain, our coaster was ranked a 4 out of 5 sickness and it was insane, I almost felt like I was gonna throw up and I usually never get queasy on a coaster. We also did Virtual Jungle Cruise as the boat was unbalanced so I kept falling onto ken hah.

Day 3: January 5th (Magic Kingdom)

Today was Extra Magic Hours for the MK so we decided to spend the whole day here. We got there a little after opening and headed straight towards Space Mountain of course, and we also did a few other rides, like Stitch, Now Stitch is not scary at all compared to AE but it was funny as Stitch is a cool character, I wont spoil much but I liked the 2nd preview with the old S.I.R. Robot and the storyline was cool too for all families to enjoy. After that, we headed to our 2nd reservation at the Crystal Palace for an 1130 lunch. It was also neat because Pooh and his friends were there too so we got to see Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, and Piglet. Tigger came up to us right away and acted all cool and gave us handshakes. When Pooh came over, I rubbed my tummy and told him I wanted hunny heh. Then I took a picture with Eeyore as well. The food was alright but it was a buffet so I made sure I filled myself up hehe.

After a few more rides (Tiki Room, Pirates, PhillarMagic), we made our way back to the hotel for 230ish to take a break in between of a long day. I went in the 60s hourglass pool to try that out, it was cool as they had flowers spraying cold water which felt nice to counter the warm pool. Then I took an hour nap as we left back to the Magic Kingdom for 5. We got our wrist bands for the magic hours as we met up with Marylou. We did Splash Mountain and Big Thunder back to back to back because there was little lines right before the fireworks and were even lucky enough to watch the fireworks while on Big Thunder. Then we made our way to Fantasyland to see if the lines for Peter Pan/Winnie was low but they were not but we were able to ride Snow White. Then we stayed in Tomorrowland for the rest of the Magic Hours as we rode Stitch again, The Indy Cars (little line), and Space Mountain twice more. We didnt get back to the hotel until 12 so we went straight to bed.

Day 4: January 6th (Animal Kingdom, EPCOT)

We decided to go to Animal Kingdom first today because EPCOT was gonna be open until Midnight on Thursday anyway so we didnt need to spend ALL day at EPCOT. So first, we got a fastpass for the Safari as the line was already 25 minutes by the time we arrived at the park so then we checked out the Asian walkway tour and saw bats, and a tiger sleeping right next to the glass and some other animals. Afterwards, we walked to the bridge connecting Asia to Dinosaur Land and walked right past the Soon-To-Be Expedition Everest and this ride looks great and its barely 50% completed. So ken wanted to ride primeval whirl even though I told him its not a typical Disney Ride and I almost forgot how bumpy that ride is. Then we rode Dinosaur and I forgot how kickass that ride is, not knowing where anything will be as you get tossed around. So our fastpass was available now and we walked right in line for the Safari and we got to see Giraffes, Monkeys, Alligators, Lions, Elephants (with a baby elephant!), and a few rhinos who blocked our path for a few minutes hehe.

We left Animal Kingdom for 12 as Ken headed back to Pop Century while I was fine and headed straight to EPCOT. I went on Spaceship Earth to start then went to JIIY with no wait, I bought a bunch of Figment merchendise, like a beanie doll with Figment wearing an EPCOT Tshirt, and holding a balloon. Then I bought this small statue of him sitting down with him holding his hand under his chin in a thinking motion, It sits right in front of my computer, it is so cute. After Imagination, I waited for Ken and bought some peanuts to hold me off until dinner. I peoplewatched for a few in the hot sun (which felt nice) on one of the benches near the Land then moved in front of the fountain so Ken could spot me. When he arrived, we rode Mission Space again, this time in the singles line so we got right on. Then we went to the Living Seas and checked out that for 90 minutes or so. We did not see the new Crush Exibit as we had a time limit because of our reservation but the new Living Seas with Finding Nemo stuff is a very cool setup. I taped the tank with a Clown Fish and the fish that is Dory and the whole time the Dory Fish swimmed around the tank in a big circle constantly and wouldnt stop, It was very funny. Then I had to check out my favorite section of the Living Seas and that is the Manatee Section, I love Manatees!

After Living Seas, We made our way to the World Showcase, We skimmed through the Mexico Pavillion and rode El Rio de Tiempo, we both agree that the ride needs an massive update. Then we went to Norway as we had reservations for Restaurant Akershus in Norway for 430. Now Im gonna sound perverted but the Norway waitresses are HOT! Sorry I had to say it but the food was good too, It was a buffet there too, as all the cold food was on a normal get it yourself way but on the menu had all the hot food items and you ordered it via the waitress. I had venision Stew, Yes I eat all the rare items, like when I had DUCK in the Canadian Restaurant. We toured the World for the rest of the night, slipting up for awhile as we both saw the new China film but he wanted to see the France movie while I wanted to see the Canadian Film, After the film, I checked out a bit of Off Kilter, my first time and I was impressed. Their cover of "Whiskey on the Jar" had me hopping. Then I saw American Adventure before Illuminations began and I actually stayed awake for the whole thing, a rare acomplishment for myself!

The Extra Magic Hours came and the 2 only rides in WS were open so we spent most of the time in Future World while checking out Maelstrom as well. We did Mission Space, Test Track and saw Universe of Energy & Spaceship Earth to conclude the long day.

Day 5 (Blizzard Beach, MGM Studios, Downtown Disney)

Slept in alittle later this evening as Blizzard Beach didnt open until 10 and plus we were exhausted by this point (BUT NOT COMPLAINING! :) ) I only wanted to spend a couple of hours there so we took the ski lift up and Ill admit it, I was nervous on the Ski Lift but what a sight from the top of the mountain, You can see EVERYTHING, but my legs were still shaking as it was gonna be my first time going down Summitt Plumett, and without even thinking about it, I told the guy It was my first time and he told me the precautionaries of keeping the legs crossed but luckily there was no line as I dont think I would have been able to do it but I did it and it felt nuts, so I did it again and both times I wouldnt open my eyes hehe, and talk about wedgie!!

Now I left Blizzard Beach for 1130 by myself because Ken wanted to go to Magic Kingdom but we were gonna do it on Saturday so I didnt think we spent enough time in MGM so I went there instead. I enjoyed being by myself as it was easier to get on rides, and I got to do what I wanted too WHEN I wanted too, no complaints to Ken though, I enjoyed hanging with him but there was certain things I wanted to do that he didnt. So I did Rock n Roller Coaster and Twilight a few more times, especially Twilight and it was different every time, and then I made it to the front car of Rock n Roller Coaster, One time I shared with this kid by myself from California, It was cool talking to someone from the other side of the country for a bit heh. I also was the last person allowed in for Little Mermaid, I almost got shut out but I told the guy that I was by myself so he let me in and I found one seat near the end of one of the front aisles. I'll admit it, I'm a fan of the song "Part of Your World" and got chills during the song. Now I wanted to do the Backstage Tour too but it was a 45 minute wait so I passed and saw Beauty and the Beast show for 430, It was a great show too, I even got it on tape. I left MGM at 6, and planned to meet Ken at EPCOT so I can use my free "Leave a Legacy Photo" but I took the scenic way as I took the bus to TTC and rode the monorail, one more time to EPCOT. Too bad they don't have the old monorail spiel anymore, I used to have all 3 versions memorized. I took my photo and left, I should have it in the mail in a few weeks where to locate it and stuff. Then we went back to the hotel to take a litle break as I hopped into the pool one last time then we went to Downtown Disney to buy people stuff and ourselves. I bought a "I'm with Goofy Shirt" that I saw alot of people wearing, I love it. I also bought this expensive globe with all the park icons surrounding it with Mickey inside the globe. I bought my girlfriend a gold ring with the mickey ears imprinted on it, I bought my mom a watch, I bought a 2 hour DVD about Walt and finally I bought a 2005 mug (i think this is gonna be a new tradition I start, I have a 2003 one too)

Day 6: (Magic Kingdom)

We only had a half day as Mears was picking us up for 230 so we packed the night before so once we woke up, we left. We got to Magic Kingdom WAY before Opening, like 830, I have never been to any park that early before. When they let us in, I powerwalked like I never powerwalked before, heading to Tomorrowland. Once they dropped that rope, Ken and I were on the first ride of the day at Space Mtn heh. Then we rode it ONE more time AND grabbed a fast pass too. We made our way to Winnie the Poo and Peter Pan since both finally had no lines and Im glad we saw them, I spotted the picture of Mr Toad and Owl shaking hands, hehe and Peter Pan will be my first memory of Disney as it was the first ride we went on in 1993 as my mom loves Peter Pan. Then we made our rounds around the park, from Haunted Mansion, to Splash Mountain, but we grabbed a fastpass to Big Thunder because it was a longer wait. We took the train to Mickey Toontown Fair and walked to Tomorrowland to use our Space Mtn Fastpass. It was sad to see all the trees that had fallen because of the Hurricanes :(. After Space, we rode Carousel of Progress, this time in the front row, i LOVE that ride every time I go on it. Then did TTA before finishing up in Frontierland at Big Thunder for our last ride. Before we left, i HAD to get a turkey leg as I always saw it and heard good things about them so I finished that as we walked around the park before heading underneith the castle. We saw the main characters coming from the Castle to sign autographs, while as they were coming out, I shook all their hands, like Donald, Max, Pluto, Smee, Minnie then FINALLY Mickey, It was like the 2nd time the whole trip that I finally saw Mickey. It was a good way to end a good trip

YES!

Wasn't the Country Bear Christmas Spectacular so much better than the priginal show. Or at least we all enjoyed it more. It was fun and very funny. We thoroughly enjoyed the show.

And, yes, the audience was hooting and singing along and clamping and stomping. And the show had an actual line, meaning not everyone got into the next show. You had to wait a show before you got in to your show.

That's good news. And even better news was that I did enjoy the show so much more than I expected.

I'm trying to figure out what time of year the parks are least crowded. Sounds like they were pretty packed the first week of January? I always thought that was the best time to go. Any thoughts on when it is the least crowded?

Great trip report. Airport security is crazy. In Phily I was actually fully patted down. Thank goodness it was a woman.
That happened to me once too, in Philly. Not fun.

Well it really was only busy on Monday when we arrived because it was the 3rd. And all the locals and people on vacation probably asked or had that Monday off due to the new years holiday.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were dead I think.

Friday wasnt too bad either

Then Saturday, it was a little more busy but that was also because of the marathon on Sunday.
