I heard SM was going down to install safety gates, but there is absolutely no indication that it will be closing between the 2-8. No official plans as of now, really.

Astro Orbiter will not be operating January 25 - March 12, 2005. (I HOPE THOSE PLANETS GET WORKED ON!!)

It's funny. I don't think I'd appreciate a brand new, state of the art coaster nearly as much.

Weird, huh?

I second this. Plus I've only just now gotten up the courage to ride it. I've only been on it once it would bea shame to rebuild it now. I want another ride.

Yes, but Small World is much more dangerous than Space Mountain. You should know that! LOL

Actually, I think the lawyers wanted them installed at all water rides before the other attractions.

You know! WDW has the oldest Space Mountain on the planet (almost 30 years) and has yet to give it a proper refirbishment. Disneyland's SM is on its 3rd refirbishment. It has had audio on its rockets for at least 8 years.

I haven't heard anything about space going down for refurbishment. It's quite an undertaking due to the amount of Cms who work there and will need to be trained in the buzz complex since there will be no space shifts.

Tikibears, to quote someone, copy and paste the section you want into your message, then highlight the phrase and click the "Wrap Quotes" button (it looks like a word bubble).

I hope Space gets smoothed out...but couldn't that be as easy as oiling the wheels and possible changing out some ride vehicle axles? Would the steel track actually cause that many problems?

I really don't understand how people can say steel coasters without over-the-shoulder restraints are rough. But anyway, a easy solution would to be to add shocks to the cars. There, however then is the problem Disneyland's Space Mountain faced which would mean WDW's Space Mountain would need to be rebuilt for it to be in order. I would be ok if the exact same layout were rebuilt because it is a really good one. Plus, there is really no point in rebuilding a ride that still gets 90 minute waits.

I really do like the cars on this Space Mountain, it may not have much leg room, but the inline seating is very nice. Great view for everybody.

Forget safety gates....demolish the interior and rebuild! :D
I'm with you Nemo!!!

Gut it up!!!!

Gut it up!!!!

I think it is mostly inevitable that SM will eventually have it's track replaced. I just hope when it does, they get something completely new, no clones and not the same layout. WDW SM has the largest show building of all the SM, even larger then DLP. It would be unwise not to use it to their advantage.

I agree with that. I know that space can't stay the same way forever.

Only thing I would like them to keep in the duel track. I don't know if most of you have noticed, but the ride does have a few near misses betweek the 2 sides if its running right.

It would seem logical for Disney, as cheap as they are, to revamp the attraction and have only one track with bigger rockets like -DL or a normal rollercoaster train like -DLP has. It seems that they would benefit from not having so many cast members frazzled at the load stations because the loading of those tiny rockets has to be a pain. And maybe "some" of those SM cast members would be a bit nicer to guests.

My first ride on Space Mountain was in February 1976. It was as much a "blast" then as it is now. While I love some of the newer steel coasters around the country, Space Mountain is a classic the way it is. The "rickety-ness" of it adds that much more charm to the attraction. I also love the single seating configuration of the rockets (much better than the old bench style of the old rockets). It makes the ride that much more unique. Sure, add some state of the art special effects, but leave the actual ride as is. IMO it can't be beat the way it is right now.
