Hello again everyone! One last question about crowds.... Is there any difference in the light crowds between the first week of January and the second? I'm trying to juggle things with my work and figuring out the best time to go and to leave work. Whew! Thanks! -- Michael

I'm pretty sure there will be little or no difference between the crowds during this time of year, afterall it is the least crowded time of year. You will have a great time either week you choose. Have fun!

The end of the second week in January will be MLK weekend with MLK Holiday on Monday the 17th. It will be busier, but still not summer/spring break busy.
Just a FYI for you.

In my experience in the past... the second week would be the best to go. The first week may still have some late holiday crowds lingering around. The MLK weekend can be busy, but last year, the longest wait for Space Mtn on MLK Weekend was 30 minutes.

Two years ago it was cold (by Florida standards) and the high was only in the 40's. The parks were EMPTY! I mean no wait on anything that weekend!

The weather will play a part in it, but you can bet the weather to be not as cold was it was.

Have fun whenever you go!

Dont Forget...

The Disney Mrathon brings in very large crowds during the second week of January. We went this year from Jan 6th until January 14th at the Polynesian . We expected low crowds but it was not the case. Our suggestion is to go the third week if possible. Not only do you have large crowds during the second weekend, the running path through the parks is a hinderance.

But I agree, have fun no matter when you do Disney!

We're going the 5-15th, 2005, and I have been afraid of this. The WWS webpage (http://dwws.disney.go.com/wideworldofsports/sportingevents/sportingeventgroupingindex?id=SPORMarathonHomePageSporEvGrping) has events listed from the Friday the 7th to Sunday the 9th, with the actual marathon on the 9th. How bad really were the crowds. Was it just on event days, or for many days around them? As of right now, we're planning for the 9th to be an "off" day. (Away from the major parks). Please share your experience in further detail. Any help would be appreciated!!

Quite honestly, The marathon occurs in the space of a weekend but people started arriving on Wednesday and they didn't leave until Monday. The runners got some benefits with thier packages such as a spa treatment. Unless you intend to use the spa, no biggie. But, If you do, it will be packed after the 2 runs. The parks were crowded as were the hotels (busses were loaded to capacity and often slower because of the amount of people). The parks were crowded and on running days, sections of the walking paths around the parks are roped off for the runners. This was a huge hassle because we had a stroller. Naturally, these araes were part of the race so they tried to keep them as clear as possible for the runners. But we are talking about runing around the world showcase, there isn't a whole lot of room to begin with when you have many people watching and others just trying to get past. Restuarants were a little crowded but usually during the evening. We made priority seating arrangements for every meal to make sure that we could get into the restuarant that we wanted on any given night. I saw people get turned away from some of the more popular eateries if they did not have PS. Blizzards Beach was a ghost town, but then again it was January:) Don't worry, the water is heated:) Just realize that the park will be filled with runners, their families and friends that are there to cheer them on, and the left overs from New Years. Magic Kingdom was by far the most crowded. At the end of our trip, which was the weekend after the marathon, it had quieted down dramatically. That is why I recommend the third week if you would like to avoid crowds.
