Jacket that endures December weather?

We were born and grew up in a tropical island, so Orlando's december weather is tough for us. So we're looking for a jacket that is good to endure that type of weather. Wet proof isn't a must but it needs to keep us warm all the time and should be wind proof.

We're thinking of SuperDry brand. It may not be famous here, but I heard positive reviews.

Any suggestion is warmly welcomed.

Thank you

I believe that Dec is normally pretty dry for Orlando/LBV. I don't think that you worry too much about precip. Avg high temps in the 70's and low temps in the 50's. A light wind breaker should be plenty warm.

It's hard to say what the weather will be like. I've been in the MK when it was in the 30s and 40s in January. It can get that cold, but doesn't usually. It might not drop below 70 during the day. No way of knowing.

LL Bean makes a variety of coats and jackets. I don't have to buy them any longer, but think they're probably still selling jackets with removable liners. Those are your best bet.

LL Bean clothes aren't really fashionable, but they are EXCELLENT quality, do a great job keeping you warm and dry and are really very reasonably priced considering the quality. I have one jacket of theirs that I've been wearing for 20 years and it still looks good. Seriously. That stuff lasts...and it works! Lots of places make promises regarding warmth and water-resistance, but LL Bean doesn't lie. They don't over-promise...And they don't charge shipping!!!

LL Bean is one of few places that let customers post reviews of their stuff right on the site - and they include the good with the bad! So if there is something wrong with an item, you'll see it. They have a lot of coats and jackets. Read the descriptions. If you have questions, call. They're very helpful.

I may sound like I work for them, but I don't. I've been a customer for nearly 30 years. They're the ONLY company out there that I could rave about. They really are that good. There just aren't any other companies I could rave about, so I felt like it. And they deserve the plug. :)

I would suggest a 300 weight Polartec FLEECE. It's what Sandy & I carry, along with two nylon coated rain ponchos. That combo will handle mild cold (don't zip it), BAD cold (zip to the neck), rain, cold AND rain. You can fit two of each into a very small coated nylon daypack.

I was going to say a hooded sweatshirt and a waterproof shell, but I will defer to Trotsky's idea of a zip fleece with a seperate rain shell.

I bought a sweatshirt at MK two years because it was chilly at night in November. I wore that sweatshirt all winter as my only outerwear and I live in upstate NY. Noted it was a very mild winter, but I figure our mild winters are equivalent to a Florida winter.

polar-tec (sp?) fleece works great. We always take that, a scarf, and gloves. It's not that it was ever super-cold (from the North), but when you have warm sunny days and the temps drop at night, the scarf, and gloves make it snuggley warm:) Plus.........it is light to pack:) The rain ponchos are a must! Florida rain seems to go sideways, so the longer the better (just not long enough that it drags).

As prior posters said - temps can vary. We had 30s in December a few years ago and I'm from NY and could barely tolerate it. There is a HUGE difference between walking from your house, to the car, to work, to the car and home, as opposed to waking in the cold all day/night long. Look for something with layers that can zip out (I think LL Bean has a 4 layer jacket - they do for kids but maybe not for adults?) so you can customize your level of bundled up depending on the weather. And get a hat and gloves...easily makes you warmer and light to carry if you are out and about.

I have two zip up (with hood) sweatshirt type jackets I bought in Mouse Gear and wear them on all our winter visits! One just says Epcot in blue and the other has some characters on it. Well worth the $ spent on them!!!

North Face and Fatface are my brands of choice for the Scottish winter but that may prove a little OTT for you as the Florida winter is more akin to a Scottish summer and my clothing of choice for that is shorts and a polo shirt.

I grew up in south FL, not drastically different than tropical islands. All you need is a sweatshirt and layer yourself (t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt). That will keep you warm enough for most Dec days/nights at WDW. Take that advice with a grain of salt. I will wear shorts and flip-flops when its in the 40s.
