It's Time for the Original World of Color to Return

I saw the show this past weekend after its month long refurbishment. It's always a pleasure to see the fountains going at night, and was a breath of fresh air for the sake of nighttime entertainment for the park.

But it has overstayed its welcome and truthfully, I think it's the weakest version of World of Color. WOC Celebrate gets a lot of hate and even that had an impactful and cohesive flow. Obviously it is not as great as the original, which is what I am getting to here. I think a true win for celebrating the 70th anniversary of Disneyland in DCA would be bringing back the original World of Color. Thoughts?

Honestly, WOC: One is my favorite Disney spectacular I've ever gotten to see. Now, I never saw the original (or any other version for that matter) because this was my first trip to Disneyland, but I also think that puts things into perspective a little bit. It's a truly magical, emotional, exhillerating experience to fresh eyes. I know it can be hard for eyes that were tuned into the original, but I just can't get behind the conversation of this version being bad when I got to witness first hand the effect it had on myself and everyone around me.

Season of Light to me is the best World of Color and is returning in a few weeks.

The worst was the 60th Anniversary show with Neil Patrick Harris. That was an abomination and had cheap flash style animation as well as a scene with Neil Patrick Harris dressed as Uncle Remus.

Yes, it's time for OG World of Color to return, but let's be perfectly clear here:

As someone who saw both, there is no universe in which WOC One is worse than WOC: Celebrate, which was truly an abomination and a spectacular entertainment low that, at least for WOC, has not yet been equaled or surpassed.

I’m late to the party but man is WOC:One disappointing. Where is the big finale blast off? Where is the giant flamethrower? Where is “the fun” sections? It’s all I want songs and heavy emotional moments. What a drag. WoC:One managed to snatch worst WOC show from WOC: Winter Dreams Frozen edition. Happinesses better be good, Powerlinr demands it.

100% agree - the 2010 debut version of WOC was amazing. Would love to see it return for the anniversary. If not the 70th, please for the 75th.

Why does everyone hate on the WOC that came out for the 60th? I remember appreciating all of the Disneyland references. Then again I’m not a WOC aficionado. I think I saw the original one time around 14 years ago and other than the 60th version have never seen any other versions of the show. I was also with a pretty fun group that night so that helps.

In general WOC just isn’t high on our priority list. If we re still even at the park at that time we’re at Disneyland or about to leave. I like DCA as the mid to late afternoon to early evening park. You gotta start and end your day at Disneyland.

WOC when good is fantastic, there has been two good shows, the original and World of Light. There has been two medium shows WOC Celebrate and Villianous, and two bad shows, Winter Dreams and One.

Yesh really? That is all kinds of cringe 😬 Neil Patrick Harris is the best but WHAT WAS HE THINKING?

My main takeaway from the 60th version was that they were trying to do Remember but as WOC, but also they were trying to throw in all their new/other non-Disney properties (and then-mega hot Frozen, which made it to all three new entertainment offerings that year) in a way that was more aggressive and forced than any other piece of entertainment they had made up to that point.

I really loved NPH at the time (and I wouldn't put the show's failure on him) and I love the idea of Disneyland nostalgia shows, but it just didn't work.

Half felt like a documentary about Walt Disney and half was a full Star Wars Force Awakens Trailer and Let it Go song. The talking bits between Mickey and Neil talking about Walt Disney are fine for a TV special but not a nighttime show.

The animations for the parts where Mickey and Neil would sing a ride song were really bad, like early 2000s flash cartoon bad.

As a Walt Disney history lesson it's ruined by the blatant modern promotion. As a night time show it's ruined by the documentary aspect.

Neil is a huge proven Disney Parks super fan and he deserved better.

I don’t really remember any of the details. Just that we walked away enjoying it. Only saw it that once. Might watch it on YouTube one of these days.
