While I was booking my WDW vacation this year, i was thinking about how my kids used to be excited about the arrival of their park maps and planning DVD, or VHS for our older patrons. It was little things like this I sometimes miss and was wondering what was some others that you guys miss. Thanks

I agree a bit like you used to get proper airline tickets, now you just bash out a few pages of A4. The first time I went to Florida. I collected all the information/coupon books which all added to the experience.

We always enjoyed the planning dvds and especially the gorgeous sepia maps. We have found the planning dvds on you tube and that has helped. I am not against the fast pass plus system but we actually miss the old paper kiosk fast pass days. Maybe that makes us weird but we liked it that way better. Somehow it felt like a treasure hunt

Im pretty sure all of my obsessive wdw habits come from a 90s trip planning VHS. I must've watched it a thousand times. River Country, Typhoon Lagoon, and Blizzard Beach were all on the same video. What a time to be alive!

Me too. I used to get the lanyard with the clear fast pass holder every year.

I was cured of that mentality one Animal Kingdom morning after too much chocolate milk. I was the teenage boy in my family so naturally I was the FastPass runner. Jogging back and forth between Expedition Everest and Kilimanjaro Safaris in the 93 degree and 100% humidity Orlando August and I got sick all over the lovely foliage.

Ok, I had to double take here.. I’m confused.
You’re watching either one a tv though, so isn’t it the same?
It's not the watching, it's the receiving of the physical thing in the mailbox. It's the same psychology that goes behind Disney shipping your MagicBands to your house instead of handing them to you when you check in.

Also...going to Borders or Barnes and Noble (as in real brick and mortar stores) to pick up the latest Frommer's guide to Disney World. (Back when a book was your only choice for planning!)

Wow, I remember those books, I never threw them out, yes, I still have a few.

Back in the mid-ninties when I was just moving from bulletin boards to the emerging World Wide Web, I would visit all the Disney sites and just print off sheet after sheet of information. I have to look, but I think I still have binders with 1000's of sheets. Hopefully they are not all faded.

Thanks for the memory.

This isn't anything that Disney did, but I remember when we went in the mid-90s, we got excited about going to the bank to get our traveler's checks as we were one step closer to getting ready to leave. Funny how times have changed...now you can just pay with your wristband.

This is a bit more personal, but I miss being able to travel with family members and loved ones who are either too old now or have since passed. I get a little misty eyed each time I remember them in the parks.
