For those CM's who have not talked to their SM's sorry to be the one to break the bad news. I got to my store tonight and my SM told me that they got an MIB that The Childrens Place bought the Disney Stores. She gets her packet of info tomrrow until then we know nothing. I am sad because I have been there 7.5 years. I am a Disney Store Cast member. If they take that away from me I do not know what I am going to do. Probably quit. Alot of people will quit. I am waiting on pins and needles to see what what our benefits are. Its my extra-curricular activity and I do not want to work "retail". If we do not get WDW discounts you can't fault The Childrens Place, it would be the fault of Disney because we are no longer a part of the family. I'll blame Disney for that. The only good thing is if it means that The Disney Store won't close that is best. I would hate to see it all go away and there be nothing.

I too, heard about this last night...

I just didn't want to post it because, just in case I heard it wrong, I didn't want to be giving out wrong information.

Tis a sad day.... :(

:( that's so sad... I'm not a CM for The Disney Store anymore, but I had stopped in to visit with my SM about 2 weeks ago, and she had told me that it was pending, and would probably go through... I'm so sorry that it has come to be... :(

Hang in there.

Nobody knows what the changes will bring, if any.

As far as I can tell, the biggest immediate change will be a quick remodel of the Disney Stores which is desperately needed in come areas.

Also, I believe that this is the end of store closings for now, and that there will be no drastic changes because Holiday time is not a good time to lose store personnel OR customers.

Hopefully the outward changes will be few and they will continue the Disney Store "perks" in some form or another.

It's a very sad day indeed. I'll guess I'll call my store when I leave work and find out what is going on. Bad news on a rainy day...how much worse can it get...

I am also sadden by the fact that the Disney stores have been sold. I started working there about six weeks ago. I do not go back to work until friday. I guess I will find out what is going on then. I hope we get to keep our benefits. I was not aware that the stores were for sale until this past weekend. It is a very sad day

Any more news anybody? :veryconfu :veryconfu

I go to work for the first time tonight after a week vacation. A vacation which was supposed to be spent in Disney but thanks to Frances I cancelled. My manager was stuck in her hotel room in Disney for 56 hours!! She ended up spending a lot more money than she anticipated so I am glad that we cancelled but sad that we missed our trip.

My wife was a CM and helped open up a brand new Disney store in 1996. We were at a mall yesterday and walked into a Waldenbooks which had taken over a Disney store site. The carpet and wall colors were still intact. Even the structure for plush mountain in the back was still there. Very sad to see the store like that.

I called my store, and a new manager knew nothing about the deal being finalized. The head manager will be in soon, so I'll call back. I did a search of the major news organizations, including Reuters, and I looked at savedisney.com, and none of these have any info about the deal being closed.

I'm a former TDS CM (store 423 - Hulen Mall Ft. Worth TX) and I am crushed that the handover is finally official. Nobody knows what changes this will bring yet but I can't imagine that the stores will feel like a part of the Disney family under new ownership. My heart goes out to any current cast members.

That's very sad. When they closed my original store, we had to destroy everything including the carpet and our plush mountain was more of a bunch of movable pieces so those were sent out of the store either to other stores or sold. The worst part was when they destroyed the animation  I do miss store 763!

It's Official Children's Place bought the Disney Store

There is no official announcement of a deal being finalized. I checked Morningstar for both Disney (DIS) and Children's Place (PLCE) for news and did not find a thing mentioning the sale, so relax for now.
I think that rather then sell, they should revamp the store. My opinion is they should leverage the other parts of Disney, it's too limited right now. They could have a section for ESPN, ABC, Radio Disney, etc., but it's only my opinion.

Well, just because its not on those sites doesnt mean it hasnt happened.

I dont know if we were supposed to get the letters from management yet, but I got mine tonight. It pretty much just says that we are going to retain our current title at the Disney Store, retain our current salary (but paid bi-weekly), and that we will retain our work location. It says more information will be provided at a later time...

I tried to get some info from the manager working tonight, but shes new, and really doenst know me on a one on one basis. I work with the store manager tomorrow and we are tight. haha

And I know, I would rather not see them sold, but we have been told many times -- if we are not sold , we will ALL be closed. From what I hear, store refurbs wont be anything big... just sign changes...

Good luck to all stores and CM's in the future weeks and months...

According to a number of sources, it's still only the letter of intent, so hopefully it will fall through...

Children's Place would run the stores under a licensing agreement. The company said it was not certain that the talks would lead to a purchase.

Highlight is obviously mine. We can hope! Maybe we can put WDW in charge of the stores and have more success? (see my post in the Michael Eisner leaving thread for more info on that)

As a former cast member of the Rockaway NJ store I am sad if they do close It. I know the Rockaway NJ store was one of the top stores in the country. But it will be sad to see it end.
