It's a Small World Needs a Rehab

Ok, after reading a message I forget where about someone talking about Small World (WDW) needing a rehab/refurb what have you.

I agree.

I think the queue needs a major redesign (enter Jesse). I'll do it. LOL. I prefer the Disneyland version of the attraction facade so much better than the one in WDW. Just painting the walls in 60's graphic design is not going to replicate the design and feel of the original. So.. why not try something else? I like the idea, it just doesn't work here. I think something beautiful could be done in the queue. It seems to me that there is alot of empty wasted space in this area also. I like the water, but its too empty... no focal points. If I remember correctly, the one in DL has topiaries and gardens you kind of ride through before the actually attraction building.

And whats with the cheesy "cultural" photographs of the children at the end as you walk up the ramp into Fantasyland? They look like bad Airport travel posters. Some are faded also. Dammit that stuff bugs me! lol.

I think the water area in the queue should have more elaborate fountains, maybe some islands or something built in them to be interesting. Because honestly, we just all watch the people get into the damn boat while on line. And I don't want to see TV's mounted from the ceiling! lol.

Ok, I'm demanding, but I'm willing to take on the challenge of making this attraction's line more interesting. ;)

The attraction itself is a classic and should remain so, with just new paint and care etc.

Just my thoughts on something that has bothered me since my first visit to WDW in 1989. LOL.

The one in CA has a clock and characters come out on the hour and the numbers go crazy. Beautiful pastel colors as well. When I was a child it wasn't quite as striking, I think it was painted with white and gold back then. DLParis got it right where WDW got it wrong. They have a clock (allthough not as impressive as CA's) and added a wonderful world water fountain. The facade front just does not do it for me :(. The ride is a keeper though, tradition for the kiddies.

I agree 110%! The message of the ride is great and it's a clasic. BUT it needs a face lift!! It's just really tacky as far as the whole que and even the inside is tacky. I mean keep the children of the corn but couldn't they give us something better than the cheesy sets and fake grass carpet? Like many other rides at WDW it's a keeper but it needs some serious updating. :)

Sorry thats my jokes again. I'm all for keeping the old attractions alive. Yes, i strongly dislike this ride but i wouldn't want them to rip it out. Plus they've already done that to JIYI, so I'm happy.

I agree about the airport style photos at the end of the ride, and truly it does need some clean-up. But every visit I still have to ride that annoying attraction! Just wouldn't feel like a trip to WDW without it!:D

i agree-i noticed the roof and 70s looking kids pics--what about all of us who find issues with the parks like iasm-why dont we all email or write disney-dont say were from here-if 15 or 20 of us contact disney in a weeks time about one issue it will make a light go on hopefully enough to make them look and see. if we all email saying we were at disney and noticed the roof looks nasty they will in fact look and see why 15 or so people have griped in a week-worth a try
i will say disney does a hell of a job in general on the upkeep of the park-yes there are some issues but keep these facts in mind-

magic kingdom is 31 years old and disney encompasses 47 square miles which is twice the size of new york city and about the same size as san francisco-try keeping those cities as clean as disney does-i have noticed some issues but overall disney really is keeping the park sparkling and clean

I think that It's a Small World needs a rehab just to bring it into the 21st Century. The decorations are a bit dated. Do not get me wrong though i LOVE this ride it is a true classic!!!!

*only 49 days to go* (so close and yet so far...)

I don't have a problem with the roof, the bad airport photos, or the 60's impersonating paint scheme, I just wish they would do something about those terrible, EVIL DOLLS!!!! :fork:

i agree that the exterior in CA is more attractive, and that the ride could use "a little lovin'" That said, I still prefer being inside for the load/unload area. IASM in CA leaves you unprotected after the end of the ride - so if there is a boat backlog (which seems to be a fairly normal thing) you just sit. If it is raining, or worse, SCORCHING HOT, well, you just sit and suffer. It was so bad last time I went I considered jumping ship and cutting through the grass!

"MAN OVERBOARD!!!"

LOL - sorry, couldn't help it

I also think it needs to be rehabed significantly. Not necessarily changed, but they need to replace a lot of the dolls because some of them don't work correctly or at all. They should also update the pictures. i wouldn't want them to change the theming or anything though, but just to keep it nice.

Our kids toured Germany, Belgium and France a couple of summers ago as part of an honor band program, and they spent a day at Disney in Paris. They rode "It's a Small World," and laughed like crazy when they got to the dolls representing the USA - nothing but football players and cheerleaders!
