Just concluded today my 26ish trip to wdw. This was a 7 day trip and my third 7 day trip of the year (2017)I have some thoughts to share.
1. New attractions: this trip promised a score of things I hadn't yet experienced including rivers of light, pandora, pixar in concert, and happily ever after.
Rivers of light was harmless enough but despite a very nice score it lacks a story or any driving action. Its not something i would go to do again. Pandora I've posted abot the indivudal attractions elsewhere but generall both excellent. The river ride is cute detailed and lush. The aa is remakrable clocking in around 6ish minutes its a wonderful dark ride distraction. Flights of passage was too intense for me although it was amoung the most thrilling and well excuted ride experiences of my life. Pixar in concert was harmless enough and a nice distraction from the woefully understocked DHS. Happily ever after was fantastic one note if you arent in front of the castle don't bother.
2. Saying goodbye
Ellen and The Great Movie ride. Loosing ellen doesn't upset me to the same extent as losing gmr. Ellen was wimpering along the laat 10 years waiting yo be put down and the attraction shows it. Effects not working, curtains not moving strange lighting. It was a mess.
Great movie ride on the other hand was marevlous as ever. I cried like a child on my final ride.
3. Upkeep
The janitors were out in force. I saw very little trash. However there were mutliple effects not working throughout the park. Splash mountains infamous brer rabbit did not come out to taunt, the raven is missing from HM at the end of the grsve yard as are the two drunk people from the chandelier. The hitch hiking ghosts weren't working and they had a hideous screen effect in place. On its a small world the jewish bride was missing and the ferris wheel was stagnant.
4. DHS is a mess.
The park is a series of dead ends and wofeully outdated and under capacity attractions. The fact it costs 100+ a day is a travesity. Even with starwars land and toystoryland. DHs is suffering not only an identity crisis but the park is best described as a hodgepodge of themes and ideas that vaugly relate to movies. Its very distressing to see a park with such an identity crisis. God save it when starwars opens.
5. The guests
The ever indulgent guests are on awful behavior this summer. I am not sure if they turn their brians off on vacation or just as that inept. I witnessed people running in front of buses, a person on lviing with the land jumping off the boat, parents letting their kids climb up the down escalator and laughing and snapping pics instead of stopping them. Lots of line cutting and general tomfoolery.
6. Final thoughts
Magic kingdom is in a great need for some non draw c or d ticket rides to disperse the crowds. It is so clear that this park is over capacity. Its manageable right now but if the attendance increases any further watch out. Even in January and March i found the park to be creaking like an overblown ship.
As an aside my frusteration with Disney is they keep catering to the lowest possible denominator. More Disney they said at d23. Meaning slap a mickey on it or else the guest won't like it. I'm afraid wde has stopped respecting the guest enough to trust them to be intelligent enough to have a good time without an IP slapped in their face. Don't they realise how quivjly dated IP areas are? Avatar in 20 yesrs may feel as cringworthy as Ellen today.
Depsite my complaints happy to have had such a magical trip. One highlight has been the ever enthused cast members who have continued to go above and beyond. Its a new Disney world folks. Its here to stay.
