Items prohibited in parks?

Is there an official “list” of items that you can’t bring into the park?
Specifically, I want to bring in my laptop to help pass the time while we wait for Fantasmic. I can’t expect my kids to sit still for over an hour. If I have the laptop, they can watch part of a movie to help pass the time (with audio splitters and head phones). Last time, we waited 45 minutes for Fantasmic and they had magna-doodles and coloring books in addition to eating dinner. Going in August, I'm planning to get seated at least 1 1/2 hours early.

I did try a thread search but couldn’t find anything so sorry if this has been covered before.

I dont see a reason why they wouldnt let you bring the laptop, although would you really want to lug it around all day?

Have you considered the Fantasmic Dinner Package (Starts at $20 for adults and includes dinner at one of 3 MGM Resturants, and then a reserved seating ticket for Fantasmic) This allows you to eat dinner, and then lets you go backstage and you have reserved seating on the right hand side of the theater, so you only have to show up about 30 mins before showtime.

Planning to go to MGM in the evening just for Fantasmic. You're right about lugging it around all day but I don't plan on doing that! I haven't tried the dinner with seating but I guess, based on what I've heard, I'm inclined not to do it.

:-) Well then since your only going for Fantasmic then bring it in! The worst case they will make you turn it on and check it, but judging by how lax security is they probally wont do anything.

The gameboy is a great idea. However, may I suggest if you are taking a Gameboy, get a cheap worm light for when it gets dark before the show. Unless you have a Gameboy Advance SP, they have their own lighting that really works well. We have them, but the boys don't even want to bring them with us. We have a long drive, so we are bringing the PS2 in the van instead.

People watching can be fun too. I hate to bog down my boys with too much TV, Video Games etc.

How crazy am I???

I was about to suggest a pad of paper and a pencil for them to play word games and draw on.

Imagine the horror of having to sit still and talk or play cards with your family!

Whatever was I thinking?!?!?!?!?

DVD players suck the batteries in notebook computers. Have you checked on how long you can play a movie on one set of charged batteries?

BRER. We will take pencil and paper. Its just that 1 1/2 hours is a long time for my 6 year old to draw and he doesn't really get the card stuff. Doing family things and interacting is important. Considering they won't watch any TV for 9 days while were in WDW, I don't mind letting them watch a DVD while we sit and wait.

Don't own any GameBoys but that's not a bad option, if we did.

As to battery life, I have 3 batteries. At worst, they last 40 minutes apiece. That shouldn't be a problem!

While laptops are allowed in WDW (or at least i checked), i have heard tales of people being harrassed by Dis security while using them at Epcot.
Sounds like a great idea to keep the kiddys busy & quiet.

Good luck.....

"don't make me get down on my knees and beg the question"

The suggestion of finding a seat 90 minutes before the show begins, and the lack of "something to do" during that time begs the question, why doesn't Disney provide some sort of entertainment? An "opening act" if you will.

MGM has a number of street performers but not everyone in the park gets the chance to see them perform. So why not bring them out (at the Fantasmic theater) at 8 PM for a mini-showcase type of program? At least that would give guests something to see other than the people trying to sell various toys. Heck, get some guys from Pleasure Island's Comedy Warehouse to come out and do a show. Just get something ...anything.

Tk

P.S.

If you do bring mini game systems or other media, be sure to include a pair of headphones so that those adjacent to you aren't bothered by the "beep beep beep, blurp, ping ping, beep" of the game.

I've brought a laptop into the parks many times. However, remember that in order for you to hear sound it the Hollywood Hills Amplitheater, be sure that the sound is loud enough to hear. It gets very noisy in there. And also, always go to the second show of Fantasmic if there is one. (I've gone just 5 min. before the second show and have gotten a great seat.)

I have a head phone splitter so both the kids can listen without disturbing those around them! Always be a good neighbor.

There isn't a 2nd show during my visit in August. 9PM close and 9PM Fantasmic. If there was, I'd be less concerned about arriving early but as it is...

As to what is "bad" about the Fantasmic Dinner package, it just depends on your point of view. I am not interested in paying for the dinner and the seating is to the right of the stage. While all the seats are good, if I go early I want to try and get a seat in the center area a little closer to the front. If you don't mind paying for the meal, by all means give it a try.

I like that. Someone who thinks like me. My 11 yr old always has pencil and pad with him no matter where we go anyways. My boys like things like the ABC game. Where you have to find the alphabet in order in your surroundings. They love to sit around and play Guess Who. In fact, a couple years ago, we were standing in line for Space Mountain and ended up playing Guess Who, as we call famous edition (stars of music, sports, TV etc) and it was such a long line, that about 15 people all around us played with us then the CM's as we got closer to the front were guessing. It ended up being fun for everyone and one of the families followed us to the next ride and played again with us.
