It is a darn shame.

When I can book a Hilton Hotel on Disney property for about 80 bucks cheaper a night then a Disney Value resort.

I was looking at the weekend of June 6th-8th (last Star Wars Weekend) and to get into Pop Century would be $189 a night where as the Hilton by Downtown Disney was about $129 and the Hilton Bonnet Creek was $119 a night.

How is a hotel a "VALUE" at $189 a night?

Compared to Deluxe prices, it's a value.

I can fess up and shamefully post that I've paid over 600 a night for a GF suite, but its the exception as mostly we stay at Shade of Green for considerably less for an equivalent room. Its got the benefit of being run by DOD and populated mostly by military retirees and thier families so its much quieter. The food however isnt all that, basic but filling and always available without a 180 day ADR. Usually the day before check-in we stop at the Wyndham just north of Downtown Disney. $110 a night gets you two Queens, a full kitchen, small living room and a decent breakfast.

Area hotels will always be cheaper than Disney hotels. The area hotels have to outcompete the vacation destinations.

You have to work around specials and plan well ahead to get a good value at a Disney hotel. We are going to stay at animal kingdom villa for $189 a night in a few months. Plus we get to use extra magic hours and transportation.

If I had to pay regular price for Disney I would not stay there.

The only thing to value about staying in a Disney hotel is the name (Disney) and the theme. If you are a bubble person, that's enough! And that is wonderful for bubble people. I get the bubble thing. I'm not slamming it.

Financially, it's always a waste. No matter what you pay Disney, you will always be able to find something bigger and nicer for the same price elsewhere. The service will usually be much better, too.

If you stay in the bubble, you must sacrifice space, service and money. But you do get the bubble!!

The onsite discounts just don't seem to be there for those that only go once a year. If you go more than once and become an AP holder, that is where you can see some significant discounts. We got a room for four nights at All Star Sports back in January for $72 a night, we actually weren't looking to go to WDW that week as we had to come to Orlando and Tampa for another reason, but when we saw that rate was cheaper than anything we saw off property, we decided to make a trip of it as well. That's where Disney gets you, in order to reap the benefits of the discounts, you really have to go for more than 10 days of the year.
