ISTCrew's Random Ramblings About the AP Mummy Event

Alright...let me start this at 11:45 am. Myself, Bryan and Tifani met up with Kenan and we went to the parks during the day. We were able to do alot at both IOA and the Studios. We just got off Spiderman, and it was 7:20, so we decided to walk back over to the Studios to get in line for the AP event.

I was expecting a HUGE line. I was surprised at how many people were there. The line was not to long, we were standing where the ticket booths are. 15 minutes later, the line had extended all the way back to the Universal globe and archway. They started to let people in, and our plan was to run to the Mummy, and get in line. Only abut 200 people were in front of us so it wouldn't of been that long. I ran to go put my stuff in a locker, and Tifani, Kenan, and Bryan all walked to the line. I got up near Twister, and noticed a long line on the street, leading to the Mummy entrance. THAT WAS THE LINE! The line went down 5th Avenue, down 57th Street, and past Twister. It was 140 minutes at the entrance to the building. We were not going to wait in the line...there was just no way. All 4 of us were wet, on a count of doing the water rides at IOA, and I had a slushie poured on my head earlier in the day, so standing still for 200 minutes was not gonna work. I put my stuff in the locker anyway, and we went to do Shrek 4D, which was 15 minutes. I thought it was alright. Tifani and Bryan both thought it was better than Philharmagic. Then we did Jimmy, and Twister. I had never done Twister before because Tifani and Kenan said it was stupid. I liked it. Then we went home lol...(wait a minute...the Cha Cha Slide was supposed to be thrown in there somewhere)

I'm glad all 4 of us went on the Mummy earlier in the day when the park was open to park guests. Nothing had changed, and it seemed the version I rode last Saturday during TR'S was the same version as the one I rode the day after Grand Opening. I heard there is an AA Imhotep in the false unload part, but I didn't see it. Also, it seemed that they have turned up the volume on the queue tv's. They were much clearer this time.

But other than that, no Mummy that night. The wait did go down to 75 minutes before we left, but we still weren't gonna wait.

I'll post some pictures in the Universal Pictures link later.

You rode during the daytime? How long was the wait then?

BTW, I heard the Imhotep AA in the false unload wasn't working yesterday, but it is suppose to be a nice AA.

Rode twice today at around 3pm and around 7pm. Wait on standby was 20 minutes. From what I heard of the AP wait times, you should just go during the day. Both Imhotep mummies were working, although I believe some of the timing is off. Great queue, and an even better ride! Two thumbs way up!

Twister was fun. Maybe because everyone said it was dumb, and I went in there with low expectations. The cow on the wire cracked me up.

But how 'bout that Jimmy though...It's over rated and not worth it. Of course, I'm not a big fan of Jimmy Neutron...I think I'm gonna keep talking, and never start the preshow...

Parc Asterix, France

OK .... most propably not sooo interesting ... but reading this short report there were two things coming to my mind ...

1. Twister is not as good as Backdraft but at least entertaining (for the wind and water effects plus (for obvious reasons not really planned for by Universal)the flying cow) and beats Disney's try in this category at the Walt Disney Studios at the Walt Disney Studios Paris called "Armageddon" easily.

2. There is a theme park near Paris, France, called Parc Asterix which is based on a (in Europe) famous comic character called Asterix. They opened a ride about a year or a year and a half ago called Transdemonium which is a mixture of a dark ride and a kiddie coaster (think Unicorn at IOA) which has a feature just as the Mummy - a false unload station. After the main part of the ride the train slows down and pulls into a rather good replica of the load / unload station the guests already know. Just that it looks deserted and decaying. Then guests see a weired demon (or was it a skeleton) sitting in the ride operators booth and the train accelerates again into a roller coaster section of the ride.

That's odd...I would say that Universal stole the idea, considering that's almost exactly what happens in ROTM, and yet I have a feeling that Universal thought of the idea for the fake unload longer than a year and a half ago. Maybe, though, somebody on Universal Creative rode that ride, then reported it to their fellow designers, and decided to take it just early enough to add the idea on the design of the ride. Or maybe they just have spies (I would believe it of Universal.)
