Is working at WDW magical?

This was my experience as a cast member, it does change the way that you see some of the things that happen there. Now does it take away the magic? I do not think so at all, if anything it adds to the magic because you get to create the magic for other people and make their vacation that much more enjoyable.

Well said!

In my experience, it also made me admire Disney even more. Everything is so well organized that it´s amazing! You sure get used to it, to say it in a way, it´s not like when u see everything for the first time, but I got chills and wet eyes many times while working there! :)

I saw ROE 40+ times in six months. The last night I was there, I bawled my eyes out.

Like the others said, it takes away some of that WOW, how do they do that magic, but you can make magic of your own. IT'S SO COOL.

I may be a little dusty with my Disney-ese but what is ROE?

I do agree, working there does add an extra bit of "magic" from time to time, but it is not always so. Like any job there are issues that hinder your enjoyment level. But then again, if you enjoyed it all the time it wouldn't be work.

You simply had to find ways to create magic to the guests day to day. Be it have a small child "assist" in delivering the tour, or taking an upset little girl who hasn't seen Mickey Mouse yet, to a private meeting. It's those little things that make the guests' faces light up and really add to the magic that's already around.

Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. We always called it ROE at AA as well as either Tap, TON, TOD for tapestry.

The coolest thing about working for Disney is if you have a bad day at work, you can go to the parks for free and forget all of your troubles and be a little kid again.

the magic stays with you until you realize how the company really works. once this happened, the magic left, but a ton of admiration (and some pity) came and took over.

Perspective changes

I agree with Maria, Turkey Leg Boy and others here. Your perspective changes, but the magic continues... with guests when you are working, and as a guest on the occasional weekend visit. After a while, there's the added enjoyment of seeing friends you've worked with years earlier, as you visit the parks, resorts and Downtown Disney.

For me... the magic changed perspectives.

It used to be that I'd walk in and say... "Wow... look at those Monorails... those things are so neat!"

Now, I walk in and say... "Wow... look at those Monorails... AND I GET TO DRIVE THEM!!! HEHEHEHE"

Another peice of magic for me... is creating it for the guests. There is nothing more special than to create magical moments and see the guest's reactions.

well, i dont work there, but i would like to. why wouldnt one want to be a part of something like that. to be on the inside of it. i say that wondering if i'm right though, because i've worked at many places for just that reason, and by the time i left i didnt like those places anymore.

however, the "places" i mention dont really come close to disney in terms of the way i feel about them. for example, i worked at best buy for a while, a place i which i originally would go in a check out all of the electronics just for the fun of it, but now would chose to go to, say, ultimate electronics. simply because going back to best buy reminds me of work. same situation applies to rainforest cafe. a restaurant in which i originally loved, but now i prob wont go back to bery often, beause i worked there for a while.

now, having sited those two examples, like i said, they really dont compare AT ALL in terms of my felings towards disneyworld. so if i had to guess i would say that the magic would definitely remain. but what do i know, right? i love hearing form those who say the magic remains that work there, though. keep the positives coming!!!!!!!

by the way, excuse the typ-os. i try to type fast to keep up with my brain, but im too lazy to go fix them!:hammer: :D

One of the full-time Custodials that worked with me didn't understand how could I possibly walk around the park and, during work hours, stop to greet Baloo and Louie.
I don't know, some people say that, when you're there too long, it's just another job. I was there for two months, I was Magical Moments and Fantasy in the Sky EVERY SINGLE DAY, and I still craved for more. Sure, I saw the parades getting ready, SImba getting "stuffed", Ariel climbing into her tail, I saw Louie with his head hanging, I even had to go backstage to sweep out the fur characters left at the stairs when climbing up. But as soon as I saw the parade riding in, or a character waving, I was just a Guest again.

And yes, going into the parks for free just to sit around eating and appreciating the view IS REALLY COOL!!! :p

I have to agree with mktiggerman in some respects. I still have the magic and love working there. My area, Advenutreland/ Liberty Square attractions, is one of the best areas to work at in respects to the rides and fellow cast members. However, I have been very disapointed in some of the management in our area. This being my first job I don't have anything to compare it with but when I talk to my friend about our conditions at AD/LIB and his at Area 4 at MGM (Star Tours, Muppets and Indiana Jones), he says I should get out of there. The biggest indication that something is wrong is when POE CMs start leaving the area. I have contemplated about leaving the area and transfering to Area 3 (TOT, RNR, and Animation Tour) if by my one year things aren't better.

I think I would love working at WDW. I love children, and my eyes just well up with tears of joy every time I see "magic" in a child's eyes who is visiting with a character, watching a parade, or giggling on a ride! I am much like a child in that once I step through those gates, Cinderella IS Cinderella, and Mickey IS Mickey - not some person in a costume. You have to keep that point of view to make the magic work! I'm sure I would see some things differently if I were a cast member. I can only imagine how tough it can be to not break character no matter how hot it gets, how tired you are, or how rude some people can actually be; but just the thought of seeing so much joy & happiness in so many children and knowing that I helped put it there would make it WELL worth it! I sure hope I get to find out someday!! I want ALL of the WDW cast members to know how much my family & I appreciate them. We have yet to meet one who didn't make us feel like a special guest, whether it's at a park, a resort, a shop, a restaurant - they're all WONDERFUL!! THANK you for ALL that you do to make WDW a magical experience for us!

Well, when I work at one of the parks, I don't experience any magic, at all.. I even hate being there sometimes, especially when I hear about certain problems at work. However, when I am at the parks as a guest, the magic returns and that's when I realize that I do, infact, work at the most magical place on earth :).

thats very touching stacy lol :D ...but i do have to agree..when u work there it kinda of looses the magic a bit. there r certin things that you c as a CM that reg. guests dont that kinda ruins it. but when you become the guest it all comes back. thats the great thing about disney world!

Wow, where the hell did this thread come from? Doc and Marty need to take their DeLorean back over to Universal.

Magic, eh? It's all in how ya act. If you go to work thinking it's just a job with money and such-- that's all it is. If you go, thinking you're gonna make a lot of people happy, that's where the magic is. Working at WDW is just like working anywhere else, but simply being at WDW is magical. A job is a job, but WDW is Magic. The moment you stop thinking you're at work is the moment the Magic begins.

I tend to agree with everyone else. Although I worked there right at 12 years ago, it really is what you put into it.
I had the wonderful pleasure to work in the MK on Main Street for the CP Fall '04 - and I have to say, working in the MK on MS there really is something different than any other place to work. Being that I was always scheduled to work mornings - I got to see more than a few people (grown men and women mind you) start to cry once they turned the corner on MS and actually see the Castle right there in front of them. How can you not help feeling that you have to do everything in your power for that day to make these people feel they are the one most important person you have ever handled?! Of course - I did what ever I could to make anyone's day special - whether it was just a smile and a good morning, or going above and beyond the call of duty, many stories there - it made me feel good to do it.
On the flip side, I also worked with an older gentle man - who it truely was just a job to him. I think deep down on the inside he "loved" it, but god if he never showed it.
I guess it's one of those, pass it along things...what can I say.:animwink:
