Man that ride will give me the Willie's...:lookaroun. It's so loud in there, that's probablly the loudest ride on all of WDW.

This ride is rough and throws you around similar to the cabin in Star Tours and Body wars. It also is careening through the dark where large Dinosaurs suddenly light up and make fast movements and loud sounds. At the same time there are pieces of an asteroid pounding into the ground around you, loudly. At the end the big Carnotaur comes out of a cave and roars, nearly blasting your eardrums out. It is fairly scary. I am 47.

I really enjoyed the ride, but if your child is afraid of dinosaurs or loud noises, i would suggest riding it at the end of the day in case they decide that the do not like animal kingdom anymore.

My 4 year old daughter will ride it...buried in my arms w/ her eyes closed. (she likes the "ride" itself, just not the Dino's.

Geez, sounds like all these American kids are wimps!!! (j/k) :lol:
Our son first rode this ride when he was 4 years old and loved it to death.
Then again this is the same child who started going to Halloween Horror Nights when he was 3 and loves then to death!
I guess what I'm saying is that only you can judge your child. Ben and Jade, out 7 and 2 year old kids, have alway been brought up not being hidden from scary things and, in our VHO, we believe that it has made them stronger and more outgoing children for it.
They know they are thrill rides and that's what they get for the, THRILLS. After all, isn't that the point?
So, if you know you child doesn't like rough rides, or loud noises with special effects then you might want to give this one a miss, if they can handle it then go for it!

I'm 21 and I ride with my ears plugged and eyes closed. If your child is the appropriate size let them ride and decide for themselves. If they get scared buy them a chocolate covered bananna. HeHe

People often ask me this question...and IMHO I think that a sure way to judge if it will be too scary is if they are either afraid of the dark, or afraid of loud noises, like thunder, sirens, fireworks...if they aren't then they shouldn't be traumatized on the ride...Dinosaur gets your heart pumpin...and whether your scared or not many people come out wanting to go right back in...the ride is great!
Another way of judging if your child will be scared on the ride...is to take a look at their attraction-riding history...have they gone on other "thrillers"....or do they just ride the normal quiet tame rides....if they haven't gone on the big thrill rides before...then Dino wouldn't be a great place to start...

It's a kind of ride which makes you feel as if you were really in trouble and dinos are chasing you!
If your kids can handle VERY loud noises and medium speed movement (sudden but little drops) and quite a bumpy ride I say go for it!
If they end up being scared to death take them to triceratops spin.... That would probably calm them down!

it depends. i rode it with a three year old, and he loved it - it scared the crap out of me (i was 17 then) - well - especially at the end... but the three year old loved it. i have seen kids come off of that ride squawling their eyes out though... - i say... strap 'em in if the say they want to go on it - but if they are already scared, don't force them.

I agree, I say, strap him / her in and make them ride it...to experience it...that is what I did with my kids...2 came off loving it and 1 hated it, and to this day will not go on it. (the 16 year old .. LOL).
But these days with the Pumba and Timon safety campaign going on, one of the signs say, "Let them decide" (picture of Timon pulling Pumba back onto the Space Mountain ride as Pumba is attempting to escape). So, you might be overruled by the loading cast member if you have a hysterical 5 year old being forced to "sit down and buck up, you will like it" attitude thrown at him/her.
Thank god that campagin came out after my kids were of that iffy age....otherwise I would of been thrown in Disney Jail many times with all my threats and bribes! I think one year I ended up paying my 12 year old at that time like $50.00 in total at the end of the vacation cause he rode all the rides....today, he says, there isnt enough money in the world to get him on some of them....(weak child, takes after his father)....or was it that I tramatized him so badly that he is now afraid of the Disney rides....LOL....we'll never know....I still think its a genetic issue and he got the bad gens from his whimpy father. LOL :wave:

It really depends on the child. You may want to try some of the less intense "scary" rides like Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Star Tours, Snow White, or even Universe of Energy (while it's not really a thrill ride, you can see how he'll react to the loud noices and life-sized dinosaurs) first See how he reacts to those and then decide whether or not to try DINOSAUR based on his reactions. If he cannot take those, I would skip Dinosaur.

Great Points there Meeko! Plus, have your kids watch the movie DINOSAUR, and if they're scared by it, don't take them on the ride. If they like it, take them on some things like Haunted Mansion, Body Wars, Star Tours, or Universe of Energy ( like meeko said ) and if they can handle them, they can handle dinosaur.

My son is 5. We put him on Dinosaur last year (at age 4). He hated it. Scared him to death. He won't even talk to us about riding it this time. And this child will ride TOT over and over and over and... The faster and scarier the better - except for Dinosaur. It's just too much for him.
BTW, he LOVES Universe of Energy. Its the dark, fast, scary, etc, of Dinosaur all together that does him in.

Ok, so far we have estalblished that some kids like it and some kids don't. I don't think that Disney designed this ride with kids in mind. I think they thought they needed a thriller in AK. And what better place to put one than in Dinolnad. Can you honestly think of an area that really suggest a thrill ride in AK? As far as loud. Yeah it's loud. But so is my music. So it dosen't bother me.
