Is this a bit sneaky?

Last week returned from WDW, where I spent my birthday and enjoyed the Food & Wine Festival, etc. Sunday night my parents came down to visit me and we went out for a belated birthday dinner (my dad's birthday is just a few days before mine also). During dinner, they asked how my trip was, and during the evening my mom said to my dad that they should go down to Disney again some time (it's been 18 years since they've been). I immediately said, "Let's go!" After talking about when might be the best time to go, etc., we kind of decided to go in February (I was already thinking of going in February anyway since I'm an AP).

Now I'm getting ready to order a Disney Vacation Planning video and having it sent to their house :animwink:. And I might even get one sent to my brother and his wife, maybe get them interested too! Make it a small family get-together since we can't get together on holidays because of my work (gotta feed the masses).

Wish me luck.

Sending one of those videos is like sending a very moving Hallmark card:)
It would be great to get your family all together to share in the magic with you. I don't think there is a better place on earth for that sort of thing. If you can manage it, They have what they call "magical gatherings" for groups of 8 or more(If you got 8 people to go). One is a desert buffet cruise to watch Wishes, Another is dinner then VIP seating for Illumination, another is a breakfast at MK with Mickey, and then there is a vip tour of AK ending with a dinner and show.
You guys have a great time!

I did that last year for my best friend and her family. I was trying to convince them to go at the same time as us so I ordered a video to be sent to their house. Online, where it askes for the first name i put for the first name: "(her name) needs to go" and for last name I put "to Disney World" so it came as She needs to go to Disney World, as the name and then the address that followed. When her mom got the mail she said she laughed for an hour at it.
Alas, it didn't work though. But, two months later, her parents decided to take a vacation for the two of them, and thanked me for sending the video :hammer:

So, it's not sneaky at all....we've all done it :drevil:

On a related note, does anyone know if they still distribute the DVD version? If so, how did you get it? I ordered one recently and got the VHS which doesn't do me any good since I don't have a VCR anymore. And the form on Disney's website no longer has the field to select a desired format.

Thanks,
Joe

The DVD option comes and goes. They've had the purple Magical Gatherings video/DVD out for a while now, and they are probably preparing for the 50th anniversary video. They might have a load of videos left from the Magical Gatherings that they need to get rid of, so they took the DVD option away until the new guide comes out.
Just my speculation, nothing official though.

Actually, I am familiar with Magical Gatherings, and it could be a viable option. My sister-in-law's mother and many of my dad's family (his mother, and about third to half of his brothers' and sisters' families) live in the next county over - about 30 miles from WDW. But family reunions are not the enjoyable events they should be because most of my dad's siblings can barely tolerate each other as well as some cousins of mine who don't even speak to their mother, or a few other cousins who are ultra-liberal and try to goad the rest of our fairly conservative family. So my small immediate family gathering of about 5 adults would be a WHOLE lot more magical/happy/fun.

Which would make your family the same as everyone else's.

In 2001 we went with my BIL & his family...there were 9 of us all together, 5 kids & 4 adults, we had a great time. I think the bigger the group the more fun.

Actually I think the more of my family that gets together, the worse it would get. Unless we could make all the aunts & uncles stay home, and just the cousins and their families got together. My cousins all get along fairly well - it's our parents (my dad and his siblings) that cause things to go bad.

Our family has decided to limit the whole xmas spending thing so that we can have another annual get together in the parks. It shifts the xmas focus away from gifts (so its more about getting together with family), gives us something to look forward to, and gives us some very special time together as a family. the holidays can be stressful, and someone always has to host the meals and such, so my mom usually ends up working very hard to make it all happen smoothly. So I think encouraging a trip is a great idea - everyone gets to be a kid again. Just try not to let your Gathering group get too big, or it becomes hard to satisfy all those impulses at the same time!

We will be renewing our vows at Disney in 5 years and we want to bring the family, mom's dads, brothers, sisters, Their kids and maybe a grandparent or two. I agree that it would be tough because everyone has so many taste. We plan to get walkie talkies for everyone and say have at it. it's so much easier this way. Besides, I would hate to tag along with my hubby and I, we have been there so many times that being around us wouldn't be fun if you were a novice (and most of our family are).:)
