Is Sanibel Island Worth a 3hr. Drive?

Is Sanibel Island worth a 3 hour drive and a day away from Disney World?
We have 13 and 11 yr. old girls and live in PA, so we don't see beautiful beaches much.
But we also don't get to see Disney much and we're going down during school, so time is short.

Sanibel Island is a nice relaxing beautiful island with a nice beach. I have a feeling you may like it more than your daughters unless they love the beach. But there are closer beaches to Disney. (Including fake ones like at Typhoon Lagoon.)
Sanibel is no Disney World. But yes it's worth visiting.

I lived on Marco Island (south of Sanibel). It was beautiful, but after living there 15 years, we were ready for more excitement and things to do, so we moved to Orlando.

There are a lot of good beaches on the west coast.
You don't have to go all the way to Sanibel.
Clearwater to Sarasota are all great beaches and 1 1/2 hours away.
Just stay on the gulf side, the beaches are soooooo much nicer.

But, I'm intrigued with the shelling that I hear is great in Sanibel.
Do you think it's worth it?

Sanibel is a unique place. Most who visit fall in love with it.

Sanibel can be fun, but a 3 hour drive? Hmm. Captiva can be worth it, as the beaches there are fantastic and usually don't have too much red tide (there seems to be a lot of it right now). I'd say you might want to try a closer beach... it's fun, but a 3 hour drive might be pushing it.
