Is Labor Day the same in the US as in Canada?

I am wondering, because I am trying to fit a time to go to Disneyland. As a WDW veteran I have never been to Disneyland and would like to make a trip out of it to SoCal. The thing is I don't want to go in the summer or at least when the kids are out of school. I know the US is different because most Canadian schools go back to school the day after Labor Day which is September 3rd this year. Is this the same in the US? Or do the kids go back early?

Lastly, would Labor Day be packed at Disneyland?

Labour day is spelled properly in Canada, but that's the only difference. :animwink:

We celebrate it on the same day as the U.S.

Different parts of the U.S. go back at different times. It's determined state by state I think.

So they could go back to school a week before and still have Labour Day off?

Also, it goes without saying, but it is probably going to be packed at Disneyland on that day right?

The day after Labor Day is the traditional start to the school year, and a small majority of schools still start on that date. However, it can differ from school district to school district within any particular state or region of the country, but generally schools start the last week of August through the first week of September.

Labor Day weekend is one of the least crowded holiday weekends at Disneyland. Most of the locals, and most Americans really, are out shopping for school clothes and wrapping up their summer events. A trip to Disneyland is not high on the priority list when the family is getting ready for a return to schooling.

If you can swing a Labor Day weekend visit, go for it. Although with Cars Land open the crowds at DCA will still be higher than normal, but that's the story for 2012 and into '13 so no way to avoid that by finding a particular weekend.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. I am racking my brain trying to figure out a time to go. The problem is we have to leave our son behind with our parents. Well we don't HAVE to, but a trip alone would be nice. He'll be one and a half by then. So since the priorities of our parents take precedent here as well it seems like going a week in the summer would be better for them, or easier. The last week of August, how packed would it be, like during the week? Or late June when most kids are out of school. Would Disneyland be swamped that time of year even on a Tuesday, Wednesday, etc?
