Is it too soon to dream about a day trip for Christmas?

We just came home from a tropical vacation. Home is upstate NY, so the weather is kinda garbage. Couple that with post-vacation depression and I'm thinking about the next getaway.

We haven't been to Disney during Christmas in a LOONG time. Like, Osborne Festival of Lights long. I coach volleyball in the winter so it just doesn't work out.

But this year....maybe, just maybe.... we escape after practice, fly in late, stay the next day, another night and fly home the 3rd day.

What's the best time/way to make this happen? Should I try for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party or will it be too insane. We used to plan around the Pop Warner Super Bowl, is that still a thing?

Any advice you have would be terrific! Thanks.

It's never too soon to dream for a Disney trip no matter what time of year it may be. But a Christmas trip is so wonderful because of all the fabulous lights, decorated trees, park decorations, the park atmosphere and the joy you get from being there in the season. We are in discussion right now about a Christmas trip back either this year or next.
Start discussing the details sooner than later. Settle on your dates, where you will be staying, means of transportation, park tickets and plans for the time on property.
Adding in a MVMCP event isn't insane, you have to purchase the tickets once they become available because of the limited number of tickets and dates available. Dates can sell out quickly. (IMHO the Halloween event is better though.)
I believe Pop Warner was Dec 7-14 last year???

Is it best to wait until the MVMCP dates come out and then book? Or book first and hope things line up/move the reservation if they don't?

As for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, if you have never done it, folks should experience it once.

My favorite tip is to NOT use a day ticket on the day of the party. On the day of your party you can enter at 4PM and party runs till 12AM that's 8 hours! (I presume they still do this for the parties?)

You'll be seeing confirmed dates published online on this site and others when Dis releases the dates. Soon after the release tickets will be able to be purchased. There are many days scheduled for the event because it's a big profit for Dis so they offer many days. We've always booked our Christmas trip first because we are going anyway, and then bought tickets when dates are released and we can decide which party date fits our schedule. Many dates do sell out quickly so don't wait to call in. Once purchased you can't get refunds so be sure of your dates.

Ah, good advice for sure.
It would be pretty cool to fly in the day of the party, but that might be pushing it a bit.
Thanks for your help!

When we flew to WDW ( we now drive) and depending on the timing of arrival, we took it rather easy the first day of arrival. The pressure of getting to the airport, the anxiety of hoping the flight actually does take off and land on time, catching transportation to our resort, getting checked in at our resort and unpacked, grab a meal ... we need a bit of an easier night to decompress.
The next morning however we are up and charging through the parks for the rest of our trip til departure morning.

That's typically how we do it as well, travelling can take a bit out of you. But if we only go for a day or so, we're going full throttle.

We just booked two nights at Disney and one night at Uni for Epic, in December. Going to fly in late Friday night, do resort hopping at Disney for decorations and food/drinks. Check into Uni resort early Sunday morning to take advantage of early entry to Epic, then fly out Monday. We did a version of this last December, and only spent 2 nights, one day Disney resort hopping for Christmas decor/food/drinks. We loved it. It is a great way to get you in the holiday spirit!

I mean I'm already booked for our December trip for 8 nights that we used a bounceback offer from our last December trip :) So no, it's not too soon!

This will be our fourth time visiting in December, and we do plan to do Jollywood (we did this last year and we actually really enjoyed it) and MVMCP (which we have also done in 2022). My challenge is going to be finding 'new' things to do this trip. We've done the resort hopping a few times and currently right now the only 'new' stuff we have is a few new restaurants we haven't done.

I just read that the pop warner super bowl is going to NC instead. The first time since 1995 or something. That'll make it a little easier!
It will because the parks usually get a lot of the families from the event going in the late afternoon. Also less noise and ruckus at the resorts that they stay at if you happen to be at the same resort they are.
