I was just wondering if you think its too early to start planning for a December 2016 trip!? I know prices will change, but what are some things that can be done this early!? Or when would you personally start to plan this trip and what would you do?

If you'd never gone, I would say you should get the UG and the Birnbaum book and start reading and taking notes. Maybe look at hotel info here and on allears.

If you have been before, it just might be a tad early to start planning. Can't book hotel or plane. Don't know what parks will have EMH (if that even exists then, which I doubt), can't book dining.

The only thing I'd do now is buy tickets, if you don't have an AP. ticket prices only go up.

We're already planning a Disney Cruise for 2016. Can't make reservations but talking about itineraries, excursions, timing, etc. More of a strategic approach than tactical. As far as prices, we just pray desperately that rates don't continue to skyrocket. Planning the next Disney vacation is what keeps us going!!

I think it might be a bit early as prices aren't out yet. I do agree with the previous poster saying if you haven't been, at least read one of the various guide books to become familiar with the parks. Otherwise, no bookings can be made yet.

In one word NO.:) We used to go every two years until I retired. Our last trip was last year..Our next is October 2015..Thats over two years away, but it's got new twists to this trip..It's our first time in the month of October ( all the rest have been July ) We are booking flights separate from a package holiday...We are flying from a airport 5 hours drive away, which I've never been to before..Our resort will be booked thro WDW.That is also a first..So apart from writing down all the must see..must do..must eat..It's all part of the fun..enjoy.:geek:

Personally, it may be too early for that considering you can't make any reservations of any sort. But again, if you have no prior experience, you may want to get the guides that everyone has suggested. Yes, the prices will definitely change. (More likely to go up than down by the looks of it :p) You can, however, get a relative estimate of how much the trip will cost with the current prices. Not an exact amount per say because the prices will change three years from now but you can get a relative sense of how much it will cost. (i.e. a range between $6000-$7000 total) That, of course, depends on what hotel you're interested in, what rooms you need, what dining plan you have in mind, transportation, park tickets, etc. I think personally, you should round your estimates to the nearest thousand to keep things simple.

No it's not too early to start "Planning" the trip. I'm doing the same thing and waiting for my daughter to turn 5 until we go back again. She really did have a lot of fun at 1-1/2 but by 4-1/2 or 5 she will be tall enough to ride a majority of the rides and my son will have all the rides by then as he will be 8 then. Tenative planning and squirreling funds away for the trip now has already started. We like to spend more then a week there at a time. Last trip was 16 days. Christmas time is a little more (Little is an understatement) packed wo se plan extra days and take our time. If your going before Christmas the crowd levels start low and build up to compacity 12/25-01/02. It's a great time of year to be there though. Just don't plan on MK on 12/25 because SOOOOO many others that will be there that day.

THANKS GUYS! I can always count on some honest opinions! It seems most posts are EXPERTS...always staying on property, doing all the things a diehard Disney freak does, having the money to do so! But in our situation we don't have the money to do a trip ALL DISNEY! We tend to go for a middle of the road hotel, off property, since we will only be sleeping there, we don't need a suite! We rent a small car to get us from point A to point B. We only buy 1 Day tickets to the Disney parks, because all the parks need some love(except MK). But this trip is going to be a NON-DISNEY trip! We want to focus on the other things FLORIDA has to offer, even if we have to venture to Tampa or Cocoa Beach or even Miami! When you live in a small town in the Mid-Atlantic East Coast, you wanna see the bright lights of a big city!;)

But thanks for all your advice...the only thing that we can do this early is to buy our tickets like one post suggested!
