Is it right to call DL the MK?

I'm on the east coast, and I still learn all about the history of Disneyland(and it's resort) and even check daily updates and photos from trip reports on various sites, someday I hope to visit DL!!!

My question is, even though what is now called Disneyland Park was never officially called The Magic Kingdom, but said on older park maps "Disneyland: Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom", is it safe for an east coaster to say when in CA "I'm going to the MK and DCA", or will I get stares. LOL

For me I see it as being called Disneyland by common word of mouth. And the Disneyland Resort as it's name. Disneyland Park seems wrong to me some how. Either calling it the Magic Kingdom of Disneyland or Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom seems classy IMHO. :dazzle:

I've also never been to DLR and I want to go badly. I would think that the best way to call it would be "Disneyland Park". It doesn't sound wrong to me because that's the way I've heard it so many times. I think the difference is that DL stood alone for so long that it hasn't always been thought of as a resort. There had to be a distinction between the MK and WDW from the start because of the way it was set up.

Call Disneyland the "Magic Kingdom" and you'll get stares. It's just Disneyland. I've never heard anyone outside of a press release call it "The Disneyland Resort", or even rarer "Disneyland Park". It's just Disneyland.

And next door is Calfornia Adventure. Or "the California park", as most people call it. Lots of tourists call it "the California section of Disneyland"

But Disneyland is Disneyland. The CM's even call themselves "Disneylanders", and you hear that word occasionally.

Now, you'll hear CM's and recorded spiels say things like "Watch your step, and enjoy your day in Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom". The only time you hear the words "magic kingdom" in Disneyland is when they are preceded by "Walt Disney's", as it's his park. There's also a few place names or locations that use Walt alot, like "Aloha, and welcome to Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room", or "In 30 minutes Disneyland proudly presents Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams".

But in normal conversation by normal customers, it's just called Disneyland. Anything else and people will think you are from Iceland or something and don't know what it's called.

Actually it is very correct to call it Magic Kingdom. Sometimes in California, Disneyland is called "Walt Disney's Original Magic Kingdom." Although it is not used often in Florida, in California, Disneyland and Magic Kingdom are used interchangably. It is also why the game Virtual Magic Kingdom is still called that even though it has elements from Disneyland as well as Walt Disney World.

I just got some Extinct Attractions Club DVDs, and they often start with a montage of sights and sounds from DL. Among them I heard at least two references made to the "Magic Kingdom of DL", one of which sounded like the lot tram. I've referred to it as "Walt's original MK" myself. I doubt if anyone outside the Disney marketing dept. calls it "DL Park" or the "DL resort". It's like the arena in San Jose. No matter how many companies slap their logo feces all over the place, we'll still just call it the Shark Tank.

Cheers.
