Is it just me...

Is it just me, or is the Animation of the straight to DVD/VHS movies getting better. I don't like the majority of the sequels, and 90% of them are some of the worst stuff ever made. But the other day, I bought Lion King 2 (made by Walt Disney TV Animation in 1998). When you compare that animation (jerky movement, mouths not matching with words, etc.) with that of Lion King 1 1/2, or The Three Musketeers, the newer stuff is much better. Mulan 2 looks to be animated well also. Atleast now, if they have to make them, they take their time a little more.

Not looking that forward to Mulan 2....was never a big fan of the first film (though Mushu is a great character).

I do agree that DTV sequels and films are getting better and better. The Lion King 1 1/2 was excellent, as was The Three Musketeers. I really don't want to see sequels to films though; it would be nice to have original movies starring the characters, just like The Three Musketeers.

I think Direct To Video is great, and Walt would have probably used it as another medium, but when it's DTV SEQUALS, I hate the idea. I think quality on DTV is going up very fast, but not fast enough for the sequals of the greats, such as The Lion King and others.

And the ironic thing was that Uncle Walt was totally against sequels for the most part because he didn't think they could ever live up to the original films. It's very rare when a sequel (or a remake) is better than the original.

I think the only Disney sequals I have on tape are Lion King 2 and return from Witch Mountain. I do want to get Herbie Rides againt hough as that's one sequal I liked as much as the original.

The direct to movies have really stepped up in the last year. They have nothing else to focus on when it comes to animation so maybe they can take more time. I am curious why they are doing these though. Sequels like that have never been that good, there history shows it. Maybe they think this is their future. The only direct to that have ever done extremely well was the Olsen Twins. They need to concentrate their energies, but I will say yes, their quality has been getting better by leaps and bounds.

The only sequel I think to be on the same level with the first would be Toy Story 2. It was better than the first.

IMO apart from the characters the animation is as cheap as it used to be. Look at the backgrounds, or the crowds of people in these movies. They simply suck. I've never been so ashamed of Disney. Maybe that's the reason I've stopped posting much.

I'm an example to how the company hurts it's good name for the sake of 'merchandising'. Sorry for rambling but I'm simply disappointed. I've had enough. Even SaveDisney is barely hanging on to headlines. I'm done with fighting this battle. I guess I'll always have a memory of old fashioned Disney. :(

I loved Mulan but aren't they just milking it a wee bit too much? That story had a begining, middle and end and it didn't seem to be open to a sequel but that's just me.
