Is It Bad That I’m The Only Person That Loves Fantasyland Theatre?

Hi,
I need to ask, is it bad that I'm the only person that loves Fantasyland Theatre with great shows they've done? I mean, you guys just want to get rid of it, which I disagree. They could rebuild it as an enclosed theater, but I don't want it to be replaced. I was so upset that Mickey and the Magical Map has been shut down, because of the pandemic. I did hear that A Tale of the Lion King will perform at the Fantasyland Theatre. While Tale of the Lion King is a lovely show and better than nothing, but I was hoping that Disneyland should make a show similar to Mickey and the Magical Map. Of course, it can wait like maybe until Disney release their next year's animated movie called Wish. I hope they make a new show for Fantasyland Theatre someday, but in the meantime, TOTLK will stay in that theater for awhile. So, be warned, I might be obsessing about Disneyland making a new show for Fantasyland Theatre like I did in the past. I'll do my very best to control it, but it won't be easy. So, if it does happen, don't say I didn't warn you.

I remember seeing some show there about Mickey Mouse as a detective when I was little. It’s a fond memory. Though I wouldn’t lament its loss at the expense of a few new dark rides, I agree that it’s a nice venue that serves its purpose.

You’re not the only one.
Thank you.

I think I know what show you're talking about. It's called Mickey's Detective School. No the best show as One Man's Dream, Animazement, or MATMM, but it's a cute show.

Disneyland does need to have a large theater for shows since we lost the Hunchback theater to Star Wars. It is kind of tradition to have a large scale show at Disneyland. However, it is about capacity. A show will suck up 1000 per show four times a day while a e-ticket would be 2000 per hour all day. While a show is great, a ride would help crows better.

I really like the concept of the theater as long as we continue to get quality shows. If it's going to sit dormant for long periods of time then its space is probably better utilized for a new attraction, especially with the limited space available in the park for expansion.

I definitely think the theater needs to stay. It's hard to tell how many people here actually don't like the theatre and how many just like to make WonderBra jokes at its expense, but any venue that can host a big production and take people off the midways for a bit is a net win, regardless of whether or not most people are actually watching the show.

Ideally it'd be enclosed, but it's fine.

There have been plenty of MATMM-esque shows that Disneyland could flat out copy and/or borrow from liberally. Mickey and the Wondrous Book, MATMagician, whatever Tokyo's show is called-I can vouch for Wonderous Book over Magical Map and the consensus seems to be that all are better than Magical Map-whether or not it's because they were able to improve on the original or benefit from fully enclosed theaters is beyond me. That said, It was Magical Map's time to go IMO. I enjoyed the Lion King show when I saw it this summer, but I'm not sure if my top use for the space would be that particular piece of entertainment.

I couldn't agree more. I like MATMM, but I think having MATWB at Disneyland will be good too. In fact, Shanghai Disneyland (that was sadly closed due of Covid) have their own version of MATWB called Mickey's Storybook Adventure:

And maybe due one of those famous Disney Princess trio medley like these: , , But I would love to see Disneyland make a similar show like MATMM, MATWB, and MATM for Fantasyland Theatre someday.

Live shows are always welcome and very needed. Too bad they don't book a live rock band at night for Videopolis. Maybe bring back Halyx or even the Mad Hatter band.

It's a nice venue and the park needs it, especially since the dance moms stage that was in Big Thunder Ranch moved those shows to California Adventure.

I know many people think of Disneyland as rides but going to shows throughout the day pace things out much nicer.

As it stands Disneyland has left the Tommorowland Magic Eye Theater empty and California Adventure is not using their Hyperion Theater.

If only there was a filmed production from the creator of Star Wars and the Godfather starring the greatest entertainer of all time to put in there. A man can dream.

I really wish MK had something like this. Some kind of stage show beyond the little castle one. It's the fantasy park after all. They should have built the Kansas City inspired theater on Main Street. Would have been really fun plus would help with crowds.

They can have Disneyland’s. The whole thing can be taken down by regular CMs in a matter of hours and it packs into a nice little duffle bag for easy transport.

A show is less likely to induce demand than a large scale attraction, so you can end up with a greater benefit to capacity.

Except a show is great advertising.
What he's saying is that a well-done production could in some ways help capacity more than a new attraction because almost no one is coming to the park specifically for the show.

So a well-done show helps the rest of the park more by giving people (a lot of people) that are already in the park another place to go without also drawing a huge number of additional guests into the gate. It's taking stress off of other park infrastructure rather than adding to it.
