I love the Grand Floridian.
"Welcome to the Grand..."

To me it was totally worth the money we spent to stay there and will be again for us in the future.
But, it really depends on what type of person you are. If you're going to sit around thinking about how much it cost you and speculating whether you're getting your money's worth, then don't stay there. If you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere and service without thinking about the $$ then go for it. It's totally awesome and worth every penny in my opinion.

How about a compromise?

I always wanted to stay at the Grand Floridian myself. So for our honeymoon - DH and I made reservations at Victoria and Alberts. We dressed up in our finest and headed over. The food, service, and atmosphere was AMAZING, but a visit did it for me. That was really enough. I don't think I could live in that kind of luxury all week long. We spend too much time in the parks to really enjoy it.

i think it just depends what you value in ur trip.. its just a room but if you like the atmosphere you get its worth it.. i wouldnt say its anything special but its always nice to stay at the top once.. my biggest complaint with the hotel is their bus service is awful.. wait times are much much longer.. and not a complaint but can be sorta annoying.. you can hear the train whistle every morning from MK lol..

I say, if its your first time staying there and you dont mind the money, go for it! you only live once..

To me the Grand Floridian doesn't justify the price. The rooms are no different than the Polynesian or the Contemporary. You are just paying more to be in the fanciest place. For the extra price you should get a lot more, but all those special luxurious touches cost even more money. For some reason I don't see what that extra price gets you.

Hotel pricing (which is a large part of my job) is almost totally based on demand and the price sensitivity of the guests attempting to book. This is why in many hotels, you will see rates of close to $300 per night, and a month or two later, you may see rates of $150 per night. Some of the best deals in Orlando can be found at the larger "convention style" hotels over holidays and in the summer. (Not only being such a large tourist market, Orlando is also a major convention market. Most high-end companies and higher-end professional associations prefer not to book over the holidays, and most companies prefer to book northern locations such as Chicago over the summer.)

Grand Floridian does not really have this problem, as, due to their location and their target market, they maintain significant demand for a large amount of time throughout the year. The times of the year that they are not running high occ, they probably still would not get a high occ if they lowered the rate.(When considering hotel pricing, there are times of the year that you could offer a $300 rate or a $150 rate and you are going to get about the same amount of guests, as unless rates are dropped to a level to compete with budget hotels, your are not going to capture enough additional guests to justify the price difference.) Therefore, if you are going to be dead, be dead with at a high price!:D And, get as much rate as the market will give you!:D
