Is Disney missing the boat with Descendants?

I don't know why they have not taken more advantage of its success. I have twin 5 years old girls that are crazy over them and along with the next door neighbors girls. I know Party City is sold out of the costumes and along with the Disney Store. I only seen a few dolls and merchandise that go with the made for TV movies. If they did a meet and greet with a major motion picture it would explode. Just a parents opinion

They ARE missing out and its a mistake theyve been making for a long time. Disney has historically missed the boat on utilizing a lot of movies and shows character popularity. In the past they promoted High School Musical to death, they put so much into Frozen merchandise as well, because its was a gold mine for them but they ignore other opportunities to promote characters that fans are drawn to. Having over 21 million viewers should show enough interest to spawn developing merchandise. I was in Disney when they took part in the past Christmas taping and the hub was full of fans of all ages.

Thanks for the response and I am glad I was not the only one noticing it. They really are sitting on a goldmine with that show. It's like Frozen all over again in my house but with "WICKED" ringing in my ears. I hope they do a meet and greet someday because I have to keep coming up with excuses why Mal and Evie are not in the parks. I will admit it is nice to have them interested in something other than Princesses.

Yes. My kids love the movie, especially my 8YO. We got an Uma costume for her a long time ago, but for some reason it didn't come with a wig. With hair that striking, they should have a wig available. Turns out that Target sells an Uma wig, but it's been sold out for weeks nationwide. Last year, the girls had Mal and Evie, and two years ago, one was desperate for some jacket and that was before the first movie had even come out.

Hey! At least they FINALLY decided to make use to the Hocus Pocus characters which are WILDLY popular! Too bad they're remaking the movie with new actors....... *sigh*...

I think those decisions about marketing toys for a movie are made long before its release... They plan what they are selling for a certain movie, and if they movie does well, suddenly there's not enough stuff... Frozen was a little like this at first, and then they ramped up the march and now it is everywhere... Things like Snow White/Cinderella, etc. are long running march opportunities. Others are not, and I think sometimes they miss their mark. I remember Cars was even a little slow on march-cause I was looking for it... and it's still out 11 years later.

I was just reading about all that's coming up for the Twilight Zone's 60th anniversary, and it's a shame Disney seems to be (eventually?) parting ways with them re: ToT.

Re: descendants: I don't think I made it through the first movie, but I don't think I'm their target audience lol.

Because not everything needs to be implemented in the parks.
