Why would disney try to bomb a movie??? I'm sure when it get's closer to release, we'll see a lot more advertising.

It doesn't come out until November. Not many movies get promoted 3 months a head of time. We should start to see sometihing late September.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The trailer is already in heavy rotation and when they start running ads on one of the most expensive mediums out there, I’m sure they want to do it during a period leading up to the movie that is effective. How many commercials did we see for Pirates in April?..

BTW, Future: If you are ‘thinking’ you shouldn’t be reading that Jim Hill stuff. ;) Why for? You aren’t his target audience.

what do you guys think of disney releasing Brother bear on Sat Nov 1st, i think this is a smart idea the day after halloween the kids are gonna be stuffed with candy so there probally gonna wanna relax and watch a disney movie. I mean the weekend gross might not be large mut Matrix comes out on Wendsday so the parents might see Matrix and drop there kids off and see Brother bear does anyone else smell a hit coming, i think Brother Bear is gonna suprise people like nemo because there was a lot of bad buzz around nemo before it came out and look at it now. I think BB has to atleast make 100 mil

they could probably even move brother bear up a week before halloween becuase the haunted mansion comes right behind in in late November and plus Disney would probably want more money with the final and hopefully last Matrix coming out. Isn't two of the sma emovie enough in one year?

I would expect a motherload of advertising for this baby in the upcoming months. The future of animation as we know it lies in the balance here, and i hope disney markets the begeezes out of this thing to make sure everyone in the world checks it out. I mean, news that they pulled in Tina Turner to sing the opener and Phil Collins writing and perfoming the songs is enough to tell that Disney really means business, they're setting up for something big. The marketing is coming

Well, the trailer has already started running with Pirates, and TV spots generally start to follow approx. 1-2 months after the theater does.

Since they are basically thinking that this is going to be the next Lion King, they are planning on promoting the living hell out of it.

BTW, one of our managers saw a preview of it about a month ago (she said about 20 minutes of footage) and said it looked wonderful.

EDIT: Just a funny trivia fact I discovered. I found it funny that Disney thinks that this movie is the next Lion King, and D. B. Sweeney is in it. D.B. Sweeney was Moria Kelly's (Nala in Lion King) co-star in the movie Cutting Edge. It is also one of each person's most known movies.

I hope it does very well.

I don't understand the "buzz around Nemo was bad" comment. I thought everyone was all about it, saying that Pixar could do no wrong.

We really need Brother Bear not only to do well, but also to be a good movie, period. It is not traditional animation that has been the problem lately, but the lackluster efforts of many of the more recent films. Watch "The Lion King" and "BB," and then watch "Hercules" and other recent ones and you will see why audiences have not been there like before.

Like The Lion King, Brother Bear seems to have a great story...in the end marketing can only get the first people in the theater...after that, word of mouth is the most important thing...if the story is great the movie is great and so people start adverstising for Disney.

Make a good movie, and advertise it to get people in the theaters the first weeks and you'll have a great return of $$ because people will recommend it to others. They did great marketing of Pirates, made a great movie, and so people continue to say "why don't you catch the Pirates flick" every time they are asked what is playin.

November seems like a good month for both Brother Bear and Haunted Mansion. While Matrix has a fan base, I don't think people will rush to see the final part because some were left dissapointed by the second part. Disney has a great chance of make big bucks in November.

Just my opinion. :hammer:

I second that objr. Disney will have a big November with The Haunted Mansion, which should make at least as much as Pirates of The Caribbean, and Brother Bear. I have sat in movie theatres and after the Brother Bear commerical I hear "that looks good" all around the theatre. Brother Bear could be even a $200 million maker with the right advertising. I wouldnt be surprised if this becomes an attraction at either MK or AK.

BB looks very promising, yes.

But HM making at least as much as POTC? I would be "very" surprised :).

POTC looked awesome from the start. HM just looks plain bad; a Disney Channel cheeze-fest, only this time with special effects and a haunted mansion.

I could be wrong, but as of now, HM looks to be a dud.

On a side note, we just the character costumes in for Coda and Kenai, and they are VERY well done. Both are just about the cutest bears we have ever had. But they also look like the hottest ones we ever had.

I think that in order for Disney to save it's traditional animated division they need to make a movie in which the characters sing!

Why in the world have there been no truly memorable songs sung by characters since Mulan! The songs are the big Disney selling point. Frankly, I don't think a bunch of Phil Collins songs sung during Brother Bear will cut the mustard. Disney should start animating some musical numbers and fast!

Just look at the huge bomb that was Treasure Planet!

Agreed, but it also has to be great, universal story.

I think we are going to see much more of the music involvement with Brother Bear. Disney keeps telling us that this is the next Lion King. And they know that music played a big part of the movie. Just look at Festival of the Lion King (cheap plug :animwink: )

How well BB does will be the first big test. Disney saying that BB will be the next LK doesn't necessarily mean anything.

It's not like the Eisner Armani wearing suck-ups give a damn, anyhow. They don't care about you.

Grizz, I had no idea! :D

From Animated-Movies:

BROTHER BEAR's script did hit potholes, including the scrapping of many of Michael Clarke Duncan's scenes as a mentor called Grizz (he's been renamed Tug) and umpteen changes in Phil Collins' songs.
