Is construction spending highest in Disney history?

Just wondering....

With EE, Stitch, Soaring, Stunt Show, and the Saratoga Springs Resort at WDW and the Space Mountain remake and Buzz Lightyear over at DL, is Disney breaking any company records in construction projects spending for a single year?

1988/1989 may have been higher with the construction of the Grand Floridian, Typhoon Lagoon, Pleasure Island, Wonders of Life, Disney-MGM Studios, and Mickey's Birthday Land at WDW, and Splash Mountain at DL.

I think that would be hard to tell. It seems to me as if they are always constructing something. It might just seem like more because of sites like this one that gets the info out to the public quicker the we used to could get it.

Just a thought.

I would think that spending was at its highest in the early 80s with the construction of EPCOT and Tokyo DisneyLand. Following that proably sometime in the "Disney Decade" 1987-1997, remember, this period would include much of the Animal Kingdom construction which I would expect would be higher than a few rides being built here and there.

I would think not. However, for WDW, this may be the most they've spent at one time beyond the construction of a new theme park, but I don't think they will be breaking any overall spending records.

The construction of the early 80's did not include Tokyo Disneyland because The Oriental Land Company financed it and owns that park. The early 80's construction did not include any resorts, but the resorts built at Disney Village were built during this timeframe but they too are not owned by Disney. Disney did rebuild Fantasyland at Disneyland, though, but nothing new was built at the Magic Kingdom at WDW during this period. The EPCOT construction nearly bancrupted the company, so it may have been the record in spending construction.

I would bet that the late 80's had the most construction spending (if the early 80's wasn't the record). Besides the projects I mentioned, the Carribbean Beach Resort was also built and so was the Crossroads shopping plaze.

EPCOT Center cost $800 million in 1982 which today is over 1.5 BILLION DOLLARS after adjusting for inflation. The stuff they are doing now is cool but it certainly doesn't set any fiscal records.

I know that for rides this is the most they've done for one resort at the same time not including new parks! (Some official person mentioned this) but I think they have spent more than that over the years! They probably spent the most when building WDW! Think about it: a park, 3 hotels, and bought alot of land at one time! (This is only a guess!)

This is tough... WDW has been very consistant over the last many years with building new things (parks, attractions, resorts, entertainment). I really think that the latest stuff to be built has been revealed to a lot more people via internet because WDW has been very consistant and it really doesn't seem that they are TOO much busier than they have been in the past!! There's also not another theme park being built, yet anyway, so the money that would usually be spent on building a new park is being circulated back into the older parks. :slurp:
