IOA's First Casualty

I just read this on Universal-excitement.com. It seems that IOA has claimed its first attraction.

The rumor was that Triceratops Encounter was going to stay closed forever, well today I got the news that in fact the decision was made and that the attraction will never reopen. The speculation as to what will happen with that area is that the 3 Triceratops "Cera" "Topper" & "Chris" will all be moved to the River Adventure in that vacant area to the right side of the Ultrasaur Lagoon at the start of the ride. That however is only speculation at this time. That huge chunk of land where Triceratops Encounter is will probably make way for some sort of attraction in the future but for now all that is known for sure is that Triceratops Encounter has permanently closed and no talks have taken place to discuss its future. There were talks in Universal Creative last year to add a GIGA Coaster into that area and stretch it back to the lagoon like they partially have The Hulk Coaster. However I was told that they scrubbed that idea. Triceratops Encounter will continue to live on at the Discovery Center with the Baby Trike.

Nearly 5 years without a major closing. So may we move on, if you loved it or hated it.

Universal planning a Gig-coaster? I hardly believe that. That would deface their park.

Agreed. It would spoil the whole look of the park.

As for the Triceratops Encounter, well I have never been on any of the JP area attractions, so I can't say I am that bothered by the news.

You should definetely try JP river Adventure on your next visit, its excellent, but for JP to be a whole land, it needs another top quality, headliner, high capacity attraction, something Triceratops never was, even though it was quite good.

Not sad to see it go, as it was really a waste of space that I only did twice out of all my visits to IOA. I'm glad to hear that some of the dinos will be making it over to JPRA though. When they install them, I hope the ride can get a much-needed rehab.

As for what is to take the space, I say bring back the Jeep Adventure concept, or close the Pteranadon Flyers and build a flying coaster themed to pteranadons. A "Raptor Encounter" of sorts would be a great addition too.

I'm not holding my breath that this space will be used for anything new. I'm not sure of the actual size of the land used for the queue and the two tiny "barns", but I can't imagine it is too big that anything beyond reopening it as a nice landscaped trail (or smoking area??) could be done.

They have toyed around with opening and closing this "attraction" for at least a year or two now. It was a unqiue idea, I suppose, but after seeing it once, there was little incentive to walk down that queue to watch an animatronic that didn't have much more movement than the dino animatrons on the ride right next door. If you watched long enough you would realize it just kept repeating the same movements and had no "interactivity" that, let's say, Lucky will have when he arrives in Dinoland next year. Its lack of popularity led to its closure. I would call it a budget cut and nothing more. Although I wasn't a huge fan of it, closing TE means one less thing to do for young children at a park that already has very little for them to do.

There is the Jeep Adventure rumor, although I think it wouldn't be the best decision. There was an old rumor about a flying coaster themed to the Aviary cage from the third movie. It would be built behind Thunder Falls Terrace and the River Adventure show building. Personally, I think this would be the best ride idea. It would provide a unique experience in the back of the park; hopefully pulling a lot of people away from Marvel Island. Also, I think it could be an incredibly well-themed outdoor coaster. The sensation of flying, combined with close-calls with steel caging and raptor, and ptyradactle (sp) animatronics could be an incredibly, terrifyingly great experience.

That's what I want though...

Sounds like a good idea to me!

As for the TE area, I don't think its so big when i think about it, maybe it will be used to install a new ride for younger visitors. Hopefully whatever they use for that area will fit into the Jurassic Park area nicely :)
