Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure is launching a watersports show next month.
The HydroAction Ski Show, featuring wakeboarders and "sky skiers," will be performed up to five times a day in the central lagoon at Islands of Adventure. The 20-minute show debuts June 15.
"We're taking the extreme thrill side of the sport, which is not uncommon in Central Florida," said Jim Timon, Universal's senior vice president for entertainment.
Indeed, Central Florida arguably is the world's wakeboarding hot spot, home to many competitors and wakeboarding schools, media and groups. Timon expects to find many performers locally.
Tom Weber, general manager of World Sports and Marketing, which produces the professional wakeboard tour, said the show should provide great exposure for the sport.
"I think it'll hit the mark," Weber said.
