I am staying at All Star Sports and it says that I don't have internet, but I DO have a data port in the room... what does that mean? Can I go online? Do I have to bring any wires or anything?
thanks! :)

You've got to bring a phone cord. The data port is on the room phone. The front desk should have a list of local numbers for you to use if you've got AOL, MSN, etc.

I was told by a Disney reservation CM (after I heard a rumor and called last week to confirm) that all rooms on property now have high speed DSL. This was not the case back in May at the French Quarter and I mentioned this to the CM, she told me that the installs had just been completed.

Good news for those of us who like to work in the evening (since these are business trips anyway, right?)

Turkey where'd you grab that info from, and how recent is it?

Latest from what the Cast Portal has updated. There may be more areas in the resorts that you can access from as far as WIFI. I haven't heard of any other resorts getting HSIA yet.

I know that the All-Stars, Port Orleans, and Pop don't have any type of high speed capabilities.

I was POR 2 weeks ago and the fastest connection I got was 28.8 using the data port on the phone. Remember the phone is on the nightstand between the beds which is along way from the table and chairs. I happened to have a 25 ft phone cord and it was just long enough but made for a good trip hazzard. I would only connect it in the afternoon or night when my 4 year old was asleap. I sure wish they had put the dataport on the wall by the TV.

So what does this mean, do we have to pay extra to get the internet or just bring a laptop and go  :veryconfu :king:

We used the internet last year at the WL. We took the local number for our provider (Frontier Communications buys local numbers in vacation destinations).
It cost .75 per call (hotel charges this) and we used our regular internet account. Think we had to dial 9 then our frontier #.

Check with your provider to see if there is a local number. Don't forget your phone cord.

I am staying at the Polynesian in Jan/Feb and they are not listed, do you know of plans for them to be getting it? Also the quote above, what does that mean? $9.95 for a 24 hour period (meaning every day) or $9.95 for each 24 hours of use of the internet?

Thanks.

Yes, the charge is daily. Even the Swan and Dolphin charge a $10.00 daily "resort fee" that includes unlimited Internet access, daily paper, coffee and health club use.

I don't know if Disney is planning on expanding the High Speed internet access. The areas that they have installed high speed access on are all their conference center resorts. I'm guessing this was done as a service to the business travelers that are on WDW property for a convention and not nessecarily for the Disney experience.

To my knowledge there have been no other rumors floating about on this site, or any others, about the high speed access expanding beyond the conference center resorts.

So POR and Poly probably won't be getting it for awhile.

The $10 resort fee is charged at the swan and dolphin regardless if you use the high speed internet connection or not.

The Disney owned and operated resports will only charge you for a 24 hour block if you sign up for the service.

That's true, but you may ask to have the $10.00 resort fee waived at the Swan and Dolphin if you do not use the provided amenities and they will not charge you.
