Do you guys really see this happening? How do you suppose it'd work? I mean, it wouldn't become Disney's Universal Studios, so there would be differences between the two resorts.

And what does that "erode' part means?

If this were to actually happen (and I don't think it will, but) the best way (and expensive way) to handle the new parks would be as follows:

1. Dismantle all rides and move them onto WDW property. Use some to beef up MGM, like T2, BTTF, or MIB. Use others to beef up AK, (Jurassic Park, Dueling Dragons, etc.) Combine all the rest into a fifth park and call it Disney's IOA or whatever. I would definately want it on WDW property and not in the traffic hellhole that it is in now. Rethemeing of some of the rides could be done. It'd be expensive, but less expensive than building new rides from scratch.

2. Sell the land that UO and IoA are on now, but ONLY in small chunks that would be too small for a park. Make sure different companies like hotels, etc. are buying it, and not some bogus group that's going to sell it to Six Flags or something. Make sure there is no competition.

That's my impossible idea!

It means that all of their cash-flow and credit would be wiped away from making such an aqquisition. That is what will stop Disney from making this aqquisition (even if they wanted to. I think they are just blowing hot air to drive up the price of the assets to whoever it is sold to. Of course, there are no potential buyers for Universal anyway, so it doesn't matter), because if they were to dig deep to buy Universal, their credit ratings would be KILLED. Then it would be all over for Disney but the crying, much like it has been for Vivendi.

Like I've said, Disney needs to work on squeezing some profits out of their past purchases before they worry about buying anything else.

I actually thought about jokingly suggesting this when I saw that Universal was being sold. If Disney could scrape together the capital, it would be great for them but terrible for us. Universal is Disney's key theme park competitor and without them pushing, Disney would not be nearly as motivated to improve the parks.

I'm wondering if something like this would even be stopped by the FTC to prevent a monopoly (but I don't know much about such things).

Now let's stop being practical and have a little fun. Imagine Disney buying Universal and the land between Universal and Disney World. . .:)

That's two of my biggest concerns after having to find the funding to do something like this.

Ok, so how would this work? If Disney were to buy these parks, would they only be allowed to add disney stuff to them? Or would they have some kind of special permit that let them add Universal movies to the parks?

And even though it could never happen (i think) Lord Alfred's idea would be okay. Still, Disney shouldn't buy, all the money that would go into Disney-fying Universal would be better spent on WDW. And imagine taking the monorail or bus through that whole universal area, all the neon signs and tacky billboards. I just don't think it'd give me that whole other world feeling that WDW does now.
