interesting thought about being a character

This is something about being a character in any Disney park no one has ever mentioned before. I see videos of kids, and even adults clinging and hugging characters like Mickey and Minnie, putting their arms around them, poseing with them, ect. This brought an interesting thought to mind. You've got to be a REAL people person to play as a character. Espeically a popular character such as Mickey. If you can't stand perfect strangers wrapping thier arms around you, this isn't that job for you. XD

I would imagine, if you are 5 feet tall or less and being Donald Duck or one of the Dwarves and a big person decides to give you a big hug...

you're right... if you can't handle a hug from a total stranger, then that's not the job for you

It's really funny too, because you can REALLY tell what a person is like by how they are "in character". Then again, you can sometimes be wrong! I have a friend who can be VERY shy, yet she's one of the most outgoing and spastic people I know "in character" :)

you'd also be so surprised at how many people hate children and do this job.

AFter all it is an acting job and you have to be good at what you do.

Yeah...it kinda peeves me when people in our department complain about what they do. I think they should feel privileged to be in Entertainment in the first place...Last night at Spectro me and a bunch of friends were talking about our "Magical Moments"...it was great :)

Wait...so...so the characters are people...in suits?!
No! NONONONO! I refuse to believe it!

You just cover your ears. These people are obviously confused. Each and every character is real. Just be careful with them, Mickey is almost 80 years old. (and still pretty spry.)

Shh.. don't say those things. It's supposed to be magical. Last time I was there I was 26, and I hugged both Goofy and Tigger and told them I love them. I can't wait to find Eeyore next time.

you'd be surprised how many of the characters act very sweet towards children while at the same time are muttering "effing kid" under their breaths..

At least you have the costume as kind of like a barrier. Just get it steam cleaned after your shifts.
For "face" characters, the barrier doesn't provide complete coverage...Poor Ariel!

I hate it when teachers complain about what the kids don't know. Either teach it to them, move on, or find another job. Complaining about them not knowing doesn't "POOF" make them know it!! That kind of magic only occurs at Disney ºoº.
I worry about stupid things for the character actors. I wonder what happens if they just get the costume on and then suddenly have to go use the "facilities" What if they aren't the kind of person that can hold it?
 Once I saw a Mickey at Camp Minnie/Mickey that had mysterious "bumps", but was a very convincing protrayal of a boy mouse in all other aspects!

18 days until we are ºoºrlando bound with 27 teens on a school bus with 930 miles of smiles to look forward to:hammer: :sohappy:

I give entertainment cast members the benefit of the doubt. A high majority of them are very kind and down to earth. They work hard and get little or no appreciation from anyone.

Well us typical teens take advantage of the people being in costumes lol, I think you get the idea.

I always worry about the characters getting hurt. I mean, the general public isn't always known for being polite and gentle... I especially worry when you see people rushing princesses clicking cameras like crazy.

There's a great story about being a character in the begining of the book "Disney War" by Jim Stewart. When he got the deal to write the book one of the things they had him do was to go into AK for a shift as Goofy. He gives a great and insightful despcription of not only the process but the mental aspects of it as well. Good read if you are interested. :D
