Interesting quote from Disney's website

I got this off of Disney's Corporate website:

"As a company literally built on imagination, Disney is constantly seeking new and creative ways to extend its characters and products..."

Is it me, or does that seem like an oxymoron? We are built on imagination, but seek to extend current characters/products? Marketing Mickey Mouse on fruit snacks or paper towels doesn't seem imaginative to me. Just seems like more evidence that Disney, under Eisner's guide over the past 10 years, has lost it's way.

I understand your point, but let's not forget that it was Walt and Disney who created the entire character marketing and products business. HE was teh first (in the 30's and 40's) to use marketing of products based on his characters to accomplish a few things. One was to expand the reach of his characters. Two, was to attract more people to his movies, TV Shows, and Theme Parks. Three, to make money (Money used to fund all of his other creative projects).

Disney is the best in the world at doing this. See Forbes article showing the top ten money manimated characters. From where I sit Disney today is continuing the tradition Walt started.
