Innoventions to become Star Wars Launch Bay & Marvel Universe?

Within the splashy yet vague announcements for Shanghai Disneyland today, there was a new Star Wars concept introduced that is coming to Shanghai - an interactive meet n' greet n' museum called Star Wars Launch Bay. Shanghai is also getting a similar setup next door called Marvel Universe.

I have no insider scoop on this, but my gut tells me we just found out what they are doing with Disneyland's closed Innoventions building that has mysterious work going on inside: Star Wars Launch Bay downstairs, and a plussed up Marvel Universe meet n' greet experience upstairs.

From the Shanghai press release: "Star Wars Launch Bay will include set pieces, props and memorabilia from Star Wars: The Force Awakens along with characters."

And from Shanghai's description of Marvel Universe: "In Marvel Universe, guests attend a multimedia mission briefing on the world of Marvel, get up-close with some popular Marvel Super Heroes and take on the role of comic book artist as they learn to draw some favorite characters."

Meanwhile in Anaheim, the most recent photos last week of Innoventions and the mysterious construction going on at the massive facility.

The interior of the building was "gutted" according to CM insiders who looked inside a few months ago, and now all of the open entrance lobbies from 1998 on the rotating platform have been walled off with new construction.

I actually hope this stays unique to Shanghai right now, but I guess it's a good addition for Disneyland too

Out of curiosity, why would you care that anything stay "unique" to Shanghai Disneyland? It's a park that's 8,000 miles from Anaheim, in a foreign Communist country that few Americans (much less Disney theme park fans) visit, and that won't even open for another year.

Who cares what they do over there?

I feel the same way about Disneyland. 2,500 miles away from Florida, in a foreign communist country that few Americans (much less REAL Americans) would ever visit.

If DL gets a Star Wars/Marvel makeover for Innoventions, it will be temporary until Marvel Studios opens at DCA and Star Wars Land opens in 2019. They could put almost anything in Innoventions and it would be an improvement over the waste of space it's been since 1998, so I really don't care what they do right now. Within a few years, it will be gone.

What if Innoventions is becoming a Blue Sky Cellar-like preview center for Star Wars Land + elements of this Launch Bay thing?

Innoventions is a huge waste of space and this won't change that. It's sad that over on the west side of the park, the walkways are clogged with people while on the east side, a giant building like this, Autopia's queue and the 3D theater/Space Mountain roof area exist.
