In Between Trip Depression

So, our last trip to WDW was in March 2011 and was a brief three day stay at the Wilderness Lodge. Over the past 15 months, I have visited two websites as well as visiting this site to see pictures of resorts or photos. I have used YouTube to watch parades, ride videos, and even the videos of the Magical Express. Thanks to some posts on this site, I am now a big fan of Sorceror's Radio and E-Ticket Radio although my wife thinks that I might be going nuts. So, with a solid five months until our next trip, I just wanted see how others manage the withdrawl symptoms of not going for a seemingly long period of time. I can honestly say that we are fairly spoiled as, when I grew up, a trip to the WDW was out of the question. Now, that was in the 70's and 80's, but it does reflect a different viewpoint as now I am blessed to be able to go much more often. Still, I can feel the anxiety building as I wait for the resort specials to show up for the November/December time. Once that happens, I can start putting the trip together and move from "thinking about a trip" to the next phase of planning and then to execution.

I know the feeling, pcaudill. WDW is all I think about between trips. We go every three years so it is like torture to me. My husband thinks I'm nuts too because I'm on all the web sites and do the you tube thing too. Now my 3 year old tells me every day that he wants to go to "Mickey's Castle". Yes, I am turning him into a fellow Disney Nut.:)

My hubby is the same way w/ me. I'll admit that I am a bit obsessed, but I can't help it!:D My boys love watching the youtube videos, and always ask, "Mommy, when are we going to Disney again?".

I am an elementary school teacher. I decorate my room 1/2 in pink fabric with Disney Princesses, the other 1/2 in black and gold stars and Star Wars posters. I have the life size standups of the princesses throughout the room and we listen to Disney music while working. On the side, I am a Disney Vacation Specialist. Everyday I am at this website and others related to our magical home. Every time we go to the world, everyone knows to just let me be the last day, because I am a mess. I just need to shorten the length between trips. I cannot wait to move to Orlando, which I am hoping this will be next month!

Play Disney World Racing for Playstation and Kinect Disneyland. They really nail the feel of the parks.

I am currently playing the following videos simultaneously (I have to keep looping the Haunted Mansion video). Sounds just like I'm there!

We only get to go about once every two years. In-between I look over this site to keep up on news and other sites official and not for pictures. Watch lots of ABC family Disney movies. When I want a little peace and quiet I close my eyes and take an imaginary walk through the world to see how much of the magic kingdom I can remember. I can usually make it through main street, the castle, and fantasy land before I fall asleep riding It's a small world.

i usually go to disney world 3 times a year.. but i just moved out of my parents; i guess i forgot to think that decision through because now my parents are not paying for my disney trips anymore :( wahh! let me just tell you, i have been going crazy especially the past couple months. i have been doing the same things, going on youtube, completely stalking the FLE, keep going on disneyworld.com and planning random trips, looking at old photos and watching family videos, believe me ive done it all. its disney depression. my boyfriend wasnt raised a disney baby like i was so he believes im crazy and am living in a fantasy.. he doesnt get it, disney truely is the happiest place on earth, everyone is so happy, the feeling you get on mainstreet, the food, the energy, just everything about disney is amazing! he says he couldnt stand waiting in lines all day, let me just tell you something... im the type of person that when i go shopping i cant sit in line for more then 10 minutes before i change my mind and put what ever i was going to buy back and leave! things like waiting in line and being stuck in crowds, walking in the rain, and waiting for buses til 12 am dont bother you in disney! does anyone understand what im saying? or am i just rambling now?

Just got back from an end of June trip and I must say I am miffed at having to flush my own toilet, the grocery lady won't accept my key to the world and doesn't wish me a magical day. There is no board in my kitchen with all my breakfast choices laid out, there is no perfectly manicured topiary of my favorite character in my lawn and there is no bus, monorail, or boat waiting to take me to a day of fun! I am REALLY HAVING A HARD TIME ADJUSTING TO REAL LIFE! :p

We went 11 years between trips. The first year was horrid.. because I knew there was no way we were going to get back for a very long time. I was right. This time it's only 13 months between trips. Until we had actual reservations it was hard to deal with. I know this time it may be 2-4 years before we go back ..i can't even think about it honestly.. I will be so depresssed.

I've often wondered where this overwhelming depression or "grief" if you will, comes from. I go to other places, enjoy myself, come home, and I'm ok. But Disney? That's a different thing altogether. Perhaps the total isolation from the "real" world. Or maybe it's the fantasy that for the most part, people are nice to you? Or something else altogether. For me, I've come to realize, it's my personal Neverland. I don't have go to work. I don't have to pay bills. I don't have to be a "responsible" adult. I can let that kid, the one who never grew up, the one who defies the very notion of being "older", out to play, to see things as a child sees things. I can be him again, and it's ok.

And you know what? That's just fine with me.

I think it's being in such a different place that makes me want to go back. Some people get it, some don't at all. I used to go just about every year with family through '70s and '80s as a kid and teen, but only started to go back the past few years with family. We don't have a trip planned this fall, but I think I'm just gonna drive myself down to FL, stay with parents for a while and head to Epcot and MK for a few days just because I need to be in Epcot for some reason - even if it has to be on my own. Rather be in the park listening to the music loops instead of listening to them on the computer.

Oh yeah, I need some Epcot 30th merchandise and would like to see what Food and Wine is all about!

Come now gang. Life is full of joys and blessings. WDW is a great place to visit, but life is for living and enjoyment regardless of where you are.

You are 100% correct! But there aren't to many places I can act like a kid (within limits) and people won't call the guys with the straight jacket. But you are correct, life offers great things, sometimes not so obvious, but good things all around!

You are so right. I see so many people counting down the days to their trip, some of which are more than a year away. There is nothing wrong with counting down, so long as you are enjoying life while you are waiting for your trip. Don't just wait your days away. Life is too short as it is.

Waiting for the next trip is both good & bad. Good because its exciting planning the trip, where to stay, where to eat etc. Bad because sometimes it feels like it will never get here! Im at 28 days now & I just checked page 1 of the how many days for you thread. My 1st post on that back in may was 104 days! Big difference!

I do get the "trip" depression, I love the planning the feeling of excitement on a count down, I think for us is that the whole family gets into it and we really do all have something to do with how the time will be spent at WDW. My husband calls me obsessed but didn't just the other day say to me I wish we were going this year!! Alas we have to wait until October 2013. That ride home from the GF to the airport is so awful, we are quiet and reflecting on the wonderful week.
