Impressions de France questions

We have never done Impressions de France and had a few questions.

I always thought it was one of the circlevision films but today saw they have theater seating. My wife gets motion sickness and does not like the circlevision films as they make her sick.

Is the screen a flat screen or is it curved in anyway? Does anybody here who gets motion sickness find that movie does the same to them or do you think it would be a safe thing for her to do? Lastly what are people's thoughts on the movie itself, is it worth seeing?

Thanks!

It's curved. It's an old film but still quite nice for nastalgia and to get a taste of France...and sitting down in the air conditioning is the best part.

IIRC, it's a 270 degree screen.

Since you're seated, facing center screen, with only slight head turns required, motion sickness should not be a problem. But, I don't have a motion problem, so I don't know for sure.

Worth seeing?
We never miss it! Love the music! YMMV.

One of my family members has motion sickness and she had no problem there. The ride is a must-do for many reasons...stunning photography, air conditioning, and a beautiful soundtrack (one that I've listened to many dozens of times).

Michael Crawford of the Progress City USA blog reported that the show originally may have been a CircleVision, but I believe they opted for just a 270 degree view.

It's actually 200 degrees -- five screens -- 5/9 of a full Circlevision.

There are some scenes in the film that give a sense of motion -- hot air balloons, etc. If your wife is *acutely* sensitive to such scenes she might have some trouble, but the film is not "thrilling" by any standard. You can watch the whole show on martinsvids.net -- look for the video named "France at Epcot" -- and that should give you a good sense of the motion aspect.

Impressions de France is one of my personal favorites for the reasons already mentioned -- great photography and really great music -- arguably the best soundtrack of any WDW attraction from a musical standpoint.

EDIT: Here's a direct link to the video: http://www.martinsvids.net/?p=121

I get motion sickness from not only Circlevision but "standard" iMax films. I just close my eyes when I start to even remotely feel dizzy/sick and listen to the music. It's not that big of a deal if you're sitting down. I agree with not turning your head, although I think it might be the motion in my periphery that gets me.

I think a decent comparison would be that the screen is similar in size and scope to the one at Philharmagic. Though because the theater is smaller, it's more like the front half of Philharmagic.

Thanks everybody. I will pass this along to my wife and let her decide. I have a feeling she will be nervous though with the screen being curved. She has gotten ill with imax movies in the past.

I tend to get motion sickness on tougher rides, but I did Impressions for the first time last month and not only was it awesome, I didn't have a problem with motion sickness at all.

My wife for some reason can do things like roller coasters no problem but movies with motion kill her.

Several years back, we were finally able to sit through the movie in France as the kids were old enough.

My 9 year old daughter asked my why the room was so hot. Being exhausted from running around, I didn't realize what she meant-as the room wasn't hot. A few minutes later, she asked why the walls were moving.

As it clicked for me what was happening, and I was running her out the door, she was sick all over. I'm sure this happens daily, but the folks were great.

I think it was the combination of the long day, the heat, a recently eaten meal, and the sudden darkness. Good luck if you try. Check out the bathroom locations just in case.

Thanks. I will share your story with her. I am sure she won't risk it. I might go to it with my 9 year old, she might like it. She did not like O Canada when I took her a few years ago but I am pretty sure it was the fact she had to stand that made her dislike it...
