The Disney Village Gaumont Multiplex opened a new IMAX movie theatre on April 9
For the first time in France, this new movie theatre will not only offer guests the chance to discover the IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) System, which allows traditional 35mm film to be shown using the IMAX format, but also the largest cinema screen to be found in a multiplex. IMAX technology digitally enhances the size of the image and the power of the sound of traditional 35mm movies, while also increasing the number of films proposed in the IMAX format.
The image, which will be of exceptional size and clarity, will be projected on to a 26m by 15m screen, while the six channel sound system produces 14,000 watts of digital sound.
The Gaumont Disney Village offers guest the chance to discover this new technology in 2 and 3 dimensions:
>> Imax® 2D: A giant screen format that takes you to the heart of the action!
>> Imax® 3D: This form of projection allows objects and characters to literally leap out of the screen at the viewer. The effect is incredible, and cannot be experienced in other cinematic environments. To take full advantage of this system, special glasses are required.
• The average IMAX screen is 4 500 times larger than a standard TV screen.
• The 15 000 watt bulb used in an IMAX projector is so bright that if it were on the moon, we would be able to see it from earth with the naked eye.
• The length of a roll of 35mm film lasting 100 minutes measures 2,7 km; a roll of Imax DMR film lasting 100 minutes measures 22 km.
Imax® films at the Gaumont Disney Village
The Gaumont Disney Village, which already incorporates 14 theatres featuring the very latest state of the art cinema technology, offers guests the chance to discover two exclusive movies in the new Imax® theatre since Saturday 9 April: Robots – The Imax® Experience and Aliens of the Deep in 3D, the film that sees James Cameron use his filmmaking talent and passion for adventure to explore a fascinating concept: That the deeps of the ocean could be a mirror of life on other planets! The film passionately retraces a series of expeditions that analyse the hydrothermal sources of the deepest parts of the ocean, the most mysterious place to be found on our planet, where we come face to face with a glimpse of what might exist on other planets…
