Imagineers Create "Autonomous Robot Stunt Doubles"

I wasn't sure exactly what to think when I first read the title. Watched the video and was absolutely blown away.
Now I am doing my best to imagine what its purpose might be...
Any thoughts???

My guesses as to why they're building these:
1. safety: with the recent-ish death of a cirque performer, maybe disney wants to keep their performers as safe as possible to not get the same bad press.
2. The animatronic meet n greets planned: Disney have been planning to make certain meet n greets, such as pooh, animatronics so the meet n greet experience is more realistic for the guest. Perhaps these are for a planned show where the animatronic characters do stunts, then kids can meet them when the show ends. Would be cool for a lion king show, I bet.
