I have a computer engineering degree and I was wondering what kind of jobs Disney has available for people like me. I'd imagine that they need software engineers to write software for rides and such and hardware engineers to design the electronics. Can anyone tell me more about what opportunities there are and how hard it is to get in? I want to move down to Florida and since I like Disney World I thought it would be cool to get a job there. Also, does anyone know of similar opportunities with Universal Studios?

I also am finishing up a computer engineering degree and would like to know about job opportunities I can look into at WDW. Does anyone know if Disney uses third party companies to help build attractions originally designed by WDI?

Yes. They also use their in house construction crews. It depends on the project.

A couple years ago apple tried to contract all of its IT work away from the company. That was met with lots of problems. Disney is now (and over the past couple years) been trying to rehire all of that internally.

Of course this does not include imagineering which has always been inside the company. So has Security.

I have done considerable research into this and have developed considerable connections within the departments. If you gave me a little more detail on what you wanted to do, I could possibly point you in the right direction.

Yes, Universal does have a department that is very similar to WDI. A fair few former Imagineers went to Universal studios when the great WDI layoff happened. That's why I.O.A. is well themed and developed.

Yes, WDI does outsource other engineering companies/manufactures to help develop new rides and attractions. Most of the main Research and Development does takes place out in Glendale and from time to time the Imagineers will call upon experts in certain fields to help develop and work in concert with them on certain attractions.

If you want to help develop the attractions during test phases and play tests then you're going to be looking at WDI in Glendale. Most of the work takes place out in Glendale and then the later half is done on site. Usually the imagineers that helped develop the attraction will fly to down to the parks that the attraction was/is designed for work with the parks engineers in implementation, installation and and repair and services.
