Okay I'm hoping to be of some usefulness here. I know that you CAN find out information about the WDI internships on www.disneycollege.com (they also have all the disney internships that are availible). I know when I was applying for my WDW internship I had to attend an info session but from looking at the website it doesn't say anything about having to attend an info session before applying or even having to have to attend a certain university.
The Universities they have had special events last year are Praire View University (no idea where that is), UCSD, Cal Tech and UCBerkeley and USC (this is disturbing cause I'm going to UCLA and we are closer to Glendale and they have forgotten us lol). They do not have any info meetings up for the next year. There is an email address for wdi college recruiting that may help you get more information though.
Imagineering is my dream and I have made it the point to try to find as much out as I could about the internship but if I'm just blowing steam please please please tell me so I know if I have to transfer colleges yet again (long story).
Another thing that might interest you is the Walt Disney World College Program. It may help you get your foot in the door if you make it a point to meet anyone you can and take classes like the Leadership Speaker Series. I actually got the opprotunity to speak to someone in imagineering (although we had to meet backstage at Epcot) through perserverence and making it known to my manager how much a meeting would mean to me. It was a great experience and actually helped me confirm my career goals. I hope this helps... throw me out if I am blowing steam cause Im just a newbie lol. You can IM me if anyone wants to talk Disney. I miss the parks so much I think I may have to break down and get an annual pass to DL and DCA lol.
