Imagineering for Halloween 2006!

I want to become an Imagineer when I get older.:D

Now I'm fairly creative, and this stuff is always very fun for me.

We live in a nice size neighboorhood and there is always the annual "trick-or-treating" activities; and this is one of the times that I get to show off my skills to public.

Over the past two years now, me and my friend have sketched ideas out and think of neat things that we could do for Halloween that is cheap yet creative. Yeah they sell Halloween props at Walmart and we get a few things there, but otherwise, we create our own ideas.

Now of coarse my insparation comes from WDW's Haunted Mansion.

That means I stray far away from the chainsaws, blood:hurl: etc...

I have soooo much more to tell; and was wondering if any of you "wanna-be Imagineers" (like me):p would want to help out!

Now I know about the 'Backyard Imagineering' stuff, but I like to create my own "original" stuff.

I have to go now, so just post if you would be interested in helping me this year. It will be lots of fun!!

I'm actually thinking of putting up some Mansion decorations this year and give out candy as one of the Hitchhikers. Decorations mainly consisting of the Hitchhikers in some form and the Sinister 11 as well as a CD loop with various variations on Grim Grinning Ghosts and the Phantom Manor score.

I'd love to hear about the different kinds of effects that you're putting together.

I want this thread to be a place where people can post their ideas; we can get some concept art - and then pics of the final projects.

I also have some neat ideas I'll share later.

Honestly it isn't much though. I would probably get the Sinister 11 pics from GrimGhost's downloads page (The Sinister 11 are the staring portraits at WDW) The Hitchhikers would simply be on plywood, though I might just be cheap and use one of those extra trifolds we have around the house(Trifolds having been used often in presentations I did in ELP in Elementary as well as part of the Images of Greatness thing I did in Middle School, dressed as Walt Disney.)
The Hitchhiker I'd probably dress as would be Ezra. There was this really nifty skeletal face mask I saw over at a local Haunted House down at the fairgrounds that looked a whole lot like Ezra/Hatbox Ghost/several Pop Ups.
Sure it isn't much, but at least it's something.

I like you're ideas and I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of you final project towards Halloween; (even though that's a far way off)

I'll start posting my ideas sometime within the next week.
I also want to put some concept art and pics out soon. (If we can get our scanner working :brick: )

Anyone else want to help us out with ideas, etc...?! Just post!:)

I've done this kind of stuff in walkthrough form in my garage for the past couple years (The key is to have fun with what you're doing!) and I thought this thread seemed interesting, so I'll jump in.

If you want to recreate some stuff from the Haunted Mansion, heres a site with various projects that have step by step instructions to make them:

http://doombuggyproductions.com/NewOrleans.html

(Be sure to check out the other lands and the rest of the site as well!)

Or, if you're going more for the typicla but original halloween stuffs and you've got a little more budget and tech know-how, this site has hundreds of links to projects on various sites to make your halloween awesome:

I'm steadily working on my Haunt for this year (already -- I know!) recreating many of the HM's Graveyard Ghosts in dimensional form. I'll post some pictures sometime if you'd like.

Happy Haunting!

Oh no...I promised I wouldn't start until June!

Hi All.
This is about the 5th year I have been growing my Haunt. Last year I themed it around Pirates and had a blast although the weather didn't help me and I had to move the cemetery to the front half of the garage.
This year I am still going between Snow White and Fantasmic! The main attraction this year will be the magic mirror. You gotta check this out - http://homepage.mac.com/nephilim/imagineerieing/magic_mirror.html. I will move the 62" tv to the garage and setup the computer, probably with a recording to control the mirror and might make have some live conversations.

I just uploaded a bunch of pictures from the last couple of years. I use a lot of UV light & Paint, X10 light controllers and timers. I have the doorbell hooked to a mouse that can run the lights or play a sound to speakers next to the door.

Anyway, take a look at my albums and let me know what you think!

I know I said I would have updates, but it's not working out well. But I'll try to get pictures of the finished product after Halloween.

Anyways, we made this "$20 Fog Chiller" that actually works very well.
Here's the link... http://www.geocities.com/liemavick/Fogchiller.html

It just connects to your "fog machine", . . . but most of them are 'smoke machines' .

You just may have to play around with the concept to work perfectly.

Update-Pirates II

Nice Chiller. I use a foam ice chest, fill it with ice and pumb the fog into it. I can't say it was overly successful last year so it is something I want to play with again this year to make sure I have it right.
I have decided to do a pirates theme again. This year will include a 12' or 16' mast off the roof of the garage with black sails and the pirate flag. Inside the front of the garage I will have the deck of a pirate ship including a animated pirate at the wheel, a drinking pirate in one corner and...hu, I have an open spot. By the door will be the pirate prison. Hooked up to the door bell will be a pirate standing at the bars. When someone presses the door bell the pirate will shake the bars (Using a $3 mixer from goodwill and some pvc pipe, X10 for the animation controller) The front yard will be a grave yard with about 10 headstones. I carved out the Sparrow headstone last weekend. I just bought my first prop controller off of ebay for $66 including shipping. I hope it works out.

Not much of an update, but I painted my pvc piping black just a few minutes ago for the chiller I mentioned earlier.

It's going to be in the graveyard this year I've decided.

I painted it black with a spray paint made for plastic (that way I don't have to sand the piping down) that I bought at Walmart.

Oh yeah, and it's black so if I have a black light in my graveyard, it won't glow as much.

(Either I'll use blacklights for my graveyard, or a blue floodlight that I have)
