I'm so confused with the Free Dining /Room Discounts!

Sorry for showing my ignorance here, but I am kind of confused on these discounts / freebies /etc.

I have a couple questions I hope the brain trust here can help me with. I will thank everyone in advance -

1) We are planning a late September trip. We normally use Expedia. As I look at the discounts, they are only off the "Rack" prices..which I think are actually more than Expedia. I'm not math guy, but I think its cheaper to stay with an Expedia package than go seps and use the discounts. Anyone have insight on this? Experience?

2) In order to take advantage of the discounts/etc, you have to go through a travel agent. Correct? I couldnt go through an Expedia and attempt to add the Free Dining/ Room Discounts to our existing package.. Correct? I never have but certainly not opposed to using one..

I am sorry if I sound ignorant, I've never been there even with a shot to take advantage of either so these are new to me.

Thanks for any advice

I've never purchased a Disney vacation through Expedia, so I can't vouch for pricing. But I would tend to think that you'd end up with a better deal going through Disney IF you use the Free Dining offer. I don't think Expedia can access those kinds of offers.

You do not have to use a travel agent to get the Disney offers - you can book directly with Disney. But if you have a favorite agent, might as well use them. Kingdom Konsultants is a good one, and their owners and agents are all over wdwmagic.

You do not have to go through a travel agent to receive the discounts. on the Disney website just click special offers and select your package there.

I would highly recommend that you contact one of the agents at Kingdom Konsultants. As @wdwmagic pointed out, they will do all of the work for you, will not charge you a dime, and you will never have to worry if you got the best deal.

I was a customer of theirs for years before going to work for them as an agent. Now that I am no longer a TA, I continue to use them to book my Disney trips. I have seen the company from both the inside and the outside and you will not find a better, more customer dedicated group of people to work with.

The advantage with booking with a Disney specific agency like Kingdom Konsultants is they eat and breath Disney and stay on top of every offer out there as well as know all of the ins and outs of the system to maximize your savings. Another great feature about booking with Kingdom Konsultants is the constantly monitor your vacation. If a promotion comes out after you book, they will re-book you at the lower rate.

Now onto your questions....

The only time I have seen Expedia beat Disney's offers by more than a few bucks is for last minute travel when all of Disney's offers have expired and you are paying full price. If you are planing ahead, there is no real reason to book through a site like Experia.

You can get any of Disney's promotions by booking yourself. No travel agent has a line on any special deals. You, me, travel agencies, all pull form the same offers.

I agree, @Kingdom Konsultant really works for our family. This trip alone, Pam saved me close to $2,000. Yes, you can book thru Disney, but when discounts come out, or if you can book cheaper, Disney won't apply the savings, Kingdom Konsultants will. Best of luck!

I booked a resort through Expedia once and had to go through Disney tech support to get the back end reservation number so I could check in on-line through MDE. Didn't save much $$$ and spent more time than necessary. I now always use the Disney site. I also check out MouseSavers to see what discounts are available.
